Trying to return my 1972 Base Coupe back to original. It does not have removable back glass. Was the removable window standard in 1972? If it should have a removable window, anybody have a good idea as to the best way to return it to original? Thanks

All my books say the removable rear window was standard from 68 to 72. It is not listed as an option. 72 was the last year for that feature.

Yes, standard and not optional. It was also the last year for removable windows, although some folks have modified their 73 and later cars with removable window hardware.

My 77 is the last year of the flat window, so does mean it can be modifed so that the rear window can be removed like the 72's?

:v

Yes, I had one - it was kinda neat - '72 was it's last year ...

Here is a removable rear window avaiable on ebay. Less than a day to go, is currently at $255.
:eekI got one that Im going to list on ebay in a few weeks,I never knew they were that much.
Tats72,I cant beleive someone would close up that window for good.If they did Ill bet that window is still the "removeable "window ,they just permanently sealed it in there.Does it have the aluminum trim around it? :beer

My neighbor is the owner of a 73 without the rear window, of course. He and I modified it to a removable window by cutting out the locating pins from a wrecked 69. He took all of the hardware and then bought a rear window and gasket. We fiberglassed the locating pins into his car and then just mounted the window. It took us the better part of a day. It is real difficult to cut into a perfect body to add these pieces but we did it. Not very difficult at all.

Installing the 70-72 rear window in a 73 requires drilling four holes for the latch hold down bolts and then bolting or placing everthing into position. It can be done in a Saturday afternoon. Drilling the four holes is nothing that was not done for assembly for the 70-72's at the factory. All the pieces are available, just not from one location. I got the window and trim pieces from ebay, the latches used from a parts suppliers and the weatherstripping from another Corvette parts vendor. I did this to my current 73 and to my previous 73 back in 78.

For anyone that needs pics of what the parts look like, give me a holler. I have them posted on my personal site.
