Was just curious if there was. My car has simpson racing belts that a vette expert told me was factory mounted and that there is factory body plugs in place where seat belts would mount. he said that i need to see if its a pace car lol....I dont think it is but i figured best place to check was here. With the tremendous Knowlege that is here this is the best place to find out how to research it. He also drove car and said it was very fast and that it was not a normal engine it said 350/350 turbofire on breather ( had decal ) I have tracked car back to all but the original owner ( he has passed away i think ) but all others said they was in car when they got it ( simpson seat belts i mean )

Sparky, You might check with Phil Sloan. His shop is just east of Chandler on highway 31. About 2-3 miles. He is knowledgeable about c3's. Fred.:w

Yes, but if you're talking about Indy, this was it.

Wow its Amazing that you say that about Phil Sloan......lol thats where it is now...and he is the one who said that is a possibility......He is working on it for me now...said it is very fast.....lol Is this Phil Hehe...just kidding...But no i was curious about it after phil said it is possible that it was built for that even if it was never used for an pace car....doesnt make it any more vaulable i think but would be fun to own

And as a afterthought In Phil's words he said and i hope i say this right...."The only other car that will stay up with it will be an L88"....i Do not have a very good knowlage of vettes but he made it sound fast lol :J

I had a 69 pace car like 67 heaven pictured,i wish i wouldve never sold it.damn ex wife.

The L88 is a Corvette legend!! It was built for racing. It had so much power, Chevrolet couldn't advertise it's real torque and hp specs. Then there was the L89 which was an L71 with aluminum heads on it.

But the L88 is the be all end all Corvette. A built racer. A 427 before all the ozone worries. Flat out muscle. No AC, no radio. It's a race car. :)

Sparky, Phil has spent more than a few hrs working on my AC and a few other small problems... He did not get to drive my car last time he had it. I put a stroker in this winter.
He is a good guy. he has a lot of parts and knowledge. Do you live in Tyler? I am in W-house. Fred.

Sparky, I'm certain that your car is something special, but there were lots of Turbo-Fire engines in the 1960s......not just in Corvettes, but in Impalas, Novas, Chevelles, etc. These were pretty much the base or second-level small block engines of their time.

I think it would be unfair to expect this engine to keep up with the L-88. It would be too busy trying to get by the L-36s, L-68s, L-71s, L-71/L-89s before it ever got a look at the tailights on a L-88 (never mind the ZL-1) :D

Maybe someone put a lot of engine work in yours.

:w

By pace car, I assume you mean the Indy 500. :)

The first Corvette to pace the Indy 500 was the '78. All told, I think the Corvette has paced the Indy more than any other car. The 2003 making it a record 5 times.

1986, 1995 and 1997 were the other 3 times the Corvette paced Indy.

Here's a link to a list of all the Indy 500 pace cars: http://www.indy500.com/pacecar/

I like phil he seems to know more about vettes then i will everlearn in my liftime.....And by no means to i mean to downgrade the L88 by any means i was just using his words ...but in more real terms i believe he said the only car that will........ outrun it ......not stay up with it. I worded that wrong...But Phil Is a very sharp person when it comes to C3's every time i ask him a question he seems to know exactly what i mean or am asking about and has the correct answer...its amazing to ask him a question about a part that i know i have not explained very well but he still takes the time to answer it very well....and the stock of original parts he has is amazing too....lol i sound like a salesman for him hehe...hope it does get him business ....he has been very patient with me lol even tho he has to think im an idiot at times hehe. I have never stumped him with a question and god knows in my poorly worded explanations i should have lol

But i actually live west of tyler about 10 miles from phils shop i live off highway 64 west towards canton. and i assumed he drove it when he said it was fast. the car with headers on it we believe is pulling about 410 hp.....again im no expert but i had engine checked and it was at 383 hp on dyno machine hooked to reg pipes and then with headers i was told adds about 8% more hp So i hope i explained that correctly...lol and please dont think im a total idiot......i know a little about motors just not vettes that well and i am trying to be careful in explaing car as i am proud of it ( my 1st vette) even if it was plain jane vette would still be special to me

67Heaven

Thats the critter lol ...same one on my breather.....one of my guys in shop tried to clean it with acetone....lol gotta get new sticker ( was original ) wiped it smooth ...he got it clean tho

Sorry me again

I did find out the 2nd owner ( car came outta ohio ) put 1700.00 into the car in 1971....Not sure what he did i have tried to get in touch again to get a list if i could but no luck yet. But in 1971 he must have made major changes to spend that much money

Maybe this will help.

1969 Engines:

Base - 350ci 300hp Engine

L46 - 350ci 350hp Engine (12,846)

L36 - 427ci 390hp Engine (10,531)

L68 - 427ci 400hp Engine (2,072)

L71 - 427ci 435hp Engine (2,722)

L89 - Aluminum Cylinder Heads For L71 Engine (390)

L88 - 427ci 430hp (actually around 560hp) Engine with Aluminum heads (116)

ZL1 - 427ci 430hp (actually around 560hp) Aluminum heads and block (2)

Thanks 67Heaven

We know your 69 vette wasn't an Indy pace car (camaro that year) ... but maybe it was a pace car for another race event .. at another track. Every podunk circle track in my neck of the woods has a new pace car from a local dealer. I'd start near the top ... look for records from large road race events from 69 ... also large stock car events. A title search in Ohio may reveal the original dealer ... and if that dealer's still viable they may have info for you. Aso ... check with Simpson ... race belts usually have a date/code on them.

Nope, no Corvette ever left the factory with anything other than the production seat belts; they were the only belt system that was ever certified for use in the car. The Simpson belts were added later, and will have dates on the sewn-on tags; if the dates are over two years old, no sanctioning body (NHRA, SCCA, etc.) will allow you on the track with them. The "Vette expert" needs to find another line of work :D
