Kurt fired off his 406 monster mouse 81 Vette today for the first time. He still has some minor bugs to tweak, but it is sounding awesome.

He and Gransport were talking at Eckler's about 1/4 mile e/t etc. I see the makings of a great heads up C3 drag race event between two might mouse motors.

More details later.

Let's see some pictures Chris, or better yet a video :D I've been wondering how that project was going. Can't wait to see it in person. Wanna come down and install a gear drive for me? :L

I've done a ton of work on my '81 lately & was just wondering today if the L88 Hood from Ecklers would fit well on my '81 - how was the fit & finish?

Thanks

:w

The hood is super nice.

We will get some pics uploaded by this weekend, as he intends to take it on the first drive then.

rear and driveline

What did you have to do to the rear (i.e. half shafts) to put the power of the engine to the asphalt. I'm putting together a 383 and understand that I might be having rear problems. Street application and tires might just create a lot of smoke but a 1/4 mile launch could mean a trailer. Suggestions/recommendations?

RUN-IT!! don't worry about the rear until it breaks. most 383's won't blow the pumpkin unless you have a manual or are slamming her into gear at 4000 rpm. i have been running 600hp to my stock rearend for three years, not one problem after replacing the stock cam struts. it never broke anything, just could not keep the camber right with 590ft/lbs of torque. check and make sure that all the parts are in good condition. alignment, wheelbearing adjustment and good u-joints (DanaSpicer greasable) go a long way. I've always been under the impression that the late C3 ('80-'82) rear-ends are FAR WEAKER than the pre-'79 rears.
If 'rusteiron' has the original rear in his '81, he might want to 're-consider'...

the aluminum housing is basically the same as the C4's. if they can take 450hp i am confident a '80-'82 will. going 500hp or higher, i would look into an iron housing, or something from Tom's Differentials.
