Newbie Corvette owner needs advice! Purchased a '75 last November with a number of small problems. First up: I have rain water leaking inside the vehicle. It appears to be dripping right above the brake pedal and then pools on the floor. Windshield seal? Firewall leak? Also, the area immediately around the gas cap does not drain and with a heavy rain the water collects to the top of the filler neck? Clogged drainage hole/tube? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think you have it.
For the water leak you might want to do the water hose test.
there is a hole and hose for the fuel cap boot.

The rubber boot around the gas cap should have a hose attached that runs water to the ground. Check to see if it is plugged or kinked.

Windshield leak is going to be much tougher to find and fix. Used plenty of water and patience.

I agree with Red

Your front window seal may need replacing, but that could be just the start of the problem. Front window leaks usually mean rust.
My advice would be to get a window fella around and remove the front window, clean the frame up and reinstall it. Only drama is that when you pull the window out, the frame could be rusty and that's when you have problems. Is the water leak a small leak or does it have a small lake in the footwell?
If it is a small leak, then just the Urethane seal needs replacement and this is not really any great problem. Removing the whole window gets a bit difficult around the bottom corners (cutting the seal with wire and not the dash).
You just gotta remember that the seal is old and they will shrink and crack letting water past. If the leak is a lot, then you have cowl leaks and this could mean getting out the welder and removing the dash.
Check the wiper well for holes as well.
I had a series of leaks, but the window and rear windows reseals solved a fair bit of the problem. I have only a small amount of water coming past the side windows, but I am going to re-hang the doors with new bushes, before adjusting the window.

Good luck with it, hope it is not the cowl leak!

Cheers

It is your pillar molding down the windshield edge. The seal inside of it is shot and the water runs down it into the compartment. Tear all your molding and t-top molding off and load up with GOOP. Trust me, will work great.................B

Rain water?

:confused I don't understand. You said rain water is getting into the interior. My question is how is the rain water getting into your enclosed garage and under the car cover? I too own a 1975 L48 but it is a convertible. If I happen to get caught in a rain storm (because weatherman lied) I usually wait it out under a cover. :L Just picking at ya, I think the guys covered all the things you need to check, good luck. Let us know what you find.

Thanx for the help, everyone. I'm sure there'll be many more questions to come.
