I would like to get a high flow water pump. Is the vette pump different than others. I see they have them listed as vette pumps. I thought a SBC was either long or short and that was it. If there is a difference, what pump am I looking for. thats one thing on my list for Carlisle Fri. Thanks

OK BUT, is there a difference in a stock GM SBC pump and a vette pump?

Save your money. The stock GM pump has more than enough capacity under all conditions. Bubba and the speed shops will try to convince you differently.
There is not any difference, and the above quote is absolutely correct:grinshot :m

The length of the pump from the face of pump that fits the block to the pully mount is 1/16th of an inch longer on the Corvette pump. The Corvette pump has a 3/4 inch diameter shaft while the standard short pump has a 5/8ths shaft.

79 toy is correct, forget about performance gallons per minute etc. the "corvette" water pump is a application specific pump. And you can bet if you go with the sbc "short" water pump, your water pump pully will not fit, and your belt alingment will be a tad off. The corvette pump is not more expensive (relativly speaking) a standard new in the box "rebuilt" is about 20 bucks, so they are not corvette price gouging you, I personaly feel the long term cooling and reliability of the water pump is significant enough to spend the extra money. When you run it hard, flow rate does matter. I can't justify 300.00+ for electric water pumps "race" pumps, but for about a 100 bucks, I feel the few extra bucks to protect my motor with a stewart stage 3 pump is worth it. Look at it like insurance, a hundred bucks is nothing to cool a 5k motor. or an original irreplaceable idem. just my opinion.

Jon is correct. I have a Stage 3 Stewart Water Pump. 6 impellers with special disk to prevent cavitation at high rpms. Very high quality pump...built ! They can match up your pump exactly. Go to thier website. They also have a DG on thier website for asking questions to the Stewart Tech. Look at their charts for a comparison on stock pump capacity versus theirs. Big difference. For as long as a water pump lasts...spend the extra money and get top of the line.
