What kind of wax should I use on my 64 Stingray? I just bought it a couple of days ago and I want to make sure I do everything right. What would you guys recommend? BTW its red but was originally silver. I think the paint has been on for about 10 years.

Many years ago, Consumer Reports rated Meguires as the least abraisive polish on the market and I have been using it ever since. The paint is now 15 years old, and still looks good.

Waxing the car is a great idea, but it should really be the last thing that you do to the finish. No wax, no matter how "hi-tech" or "exotic" will perform to it's full potential unless the surface to which it is applied has been properly prepped.

That said, have you considered claying the car? How about a paint cleaner or polish?

I have found that Pinnacle Souveran is an excellent choice in a wax for red cars, the only drawback is the price tag - about $60.00 per jar.

An equally effective wax would be S100. Cost is more reasonable at about $15.00 per jar.

Proper application and removal tools are also necessary. Personally I like foam pads for application and quality microfiber towels for removal.

A quality Quick Detail spray should also be something that you add to your bag of tricks, preferably one that is compatible with your top coat.

Congrats on your new car, and welcome to the :CAC .

Ironically enough I used the pinnacle souveran... I prepped the car by using the pinnacle paintwork cleansing lotion. I am very pleased with the result of both. After using the cleansing lotion I noticed some flaws to the paint. It looked as if someone tried waxing the car before but never took off the wax..? Is it possible that the wax some how bonded to the paint? The marks in the paint look like wax and have the same application design (circular). What will get rid of this...any opinions or suggestions are helpful. Thanks

I'm not really sure I understand what you are referring to - sorry. Are you talking about hairline/fine scratches in the clear coat? I'm a bit confused as to what you are seeing.

Nice choice in products with the PPCL and the Souveran. I would only add that a clay bar would have been a good idea prior to the PPCL.

Could you elaborate on these marks that you are seeing? Thanks.
