I’m replacing the weather stripping on my car. I took off the old piece that goes on the back part where the door closes and it was attached to a chrome metal strip that was riveted and glued in place. Was that just part of the original weather-stripping? The new one doesn’t have it. Do I have to clean that piece up and attach the new weather strip to it and glue and riveted it in place or can I just glue the new on in place without it.

Thank you,

Earl

That piece is called a water diverter. I would either clean up the one you have, or purchase new ones via www.ecklers.com or any of the other Corvette parts shops. If you don't have that piece installed water will run down in the door jamb and straight into the area under the seat where the seat belts are.

I'm glad i asked, i might have just put that piece in the trash and glued the weatherstrip in place without it.

Thank you for your help
Earl
