I was looking for a bit of help on replacing the weathering stripping on my 80 coupe doors. I have the kit & it does not appear to be a big job, however I was wondering about when I take the old rubber off, will there be rubber residue on the car? If so what would I use to clean it off? I am assuming that the new glue will not stick well unless it is clean. Finally overall is this an easy fix or should I take it to a body shop for the professional touch?

Done this with a couple of my Camaro's.

I used a hard plastic knife or a plastic body filler applicator board to scrape off most of the old weather strip then followed that up with a solvent like GooGone or mineral spirts to remove the old glue. Solvents will remove paint so be carefull if you use it. Another method is to use a hot hair dryer or heat gun to soften up the glue. 3M makes a glue removal product also. Not a hard job, just takes time.

Good luck.
