I was reading some previous posts and I was about ready to change the t-top weatherstrips on mine but I saw where some people said theirs cracked the tops!!!! My weatherstrips are in shambles, so have to change but saw posts where people had theirs crack or knew someone that did. How can i prevent this? My tops are the original mirror tops hate to risk losing them. Also I bought my weatherstrips from here if anyone has an opinion:

Cracked Tops?

Hi LanceB, your mirror are rare but you should not have any trouble changing the weathers strips. On my fiberglass tops I used 3M adhesive cleaner to remove all the old weather strip and used 3M adhesive to get the new ones to stick on. The job went well! You have to be careful not to let the new weather strip fold over when you put them back on but you should not have to worry about cracking them. PG.

...3M adhesive cleaner...3M adhesive...

Ditto. Purchase the 81 assembly instruction manual. AIM shows the factory weatherstrip installation on the glass tops. I purchased the weatherstip installation tool kit from Eckler's and found it to be handy. You can do the installation without it.

Work on a protected surface and take your time.

Expect some top adjustment after the new weatherstripping is installed. Follow the procedures listed in the AIM. Do not snug down the fronts too tightly. The trailing edges of the glass tops sit higher in the rear than the fiberglass tops. AIM has the dimensions.

:)

Thanks for the replies guys. I have an AIM so I will consult that as I do this. I can already feel the sinking feeling in my stomach if I were to do this and then have a cracked top as some others on here experienced...
