1971 Convertable (w/ hardtop)
I would like to store the hardtop for my '71 convertable from the ceiling of my garage. Does anyone have the weight I should use to determine the capacity for whatever rack I end up with?

I can't help with the question but I will be watching for the answer because I want to do the same thing. The guy I bought the car from is going to be shipping the top to me soon and I will need to find some way to store it. How much do you think the top weighs?

Thanks,
Andy

One way to guess the weight is how many guys does it take to lift the top comfortably. Then multiply the number of guys times 50-60 lbs. ie 2 guys = 100-120 lbs 3 guys = 150-180 lbs.

Get 3 or 4 bathroom scales, put the corners on them and add the weights indicated.

Bathroom scale, just hold one hardtop and stand on scale, then you just get on and weigh yourself. I think you will find your answer LOL.:D
When I want to know how much one of my cats weigh that is what I do.

I think its' easier to bend over and read the scale while holding a cat...imagine how much harder when holding a several hundred pound, bulky hard top! :eek (you are too funny Janine!)

Wouldn't the learning center have that information?

Thanks

Thanks for all the advice. I was thinking around 100 lbs, but wanted to feel better about it. I have seen lifts for Jeep hard tops, but none specifically for a C3 top (the ads for the Jeep hard tops say that they are specifically made for x model Jeep. I was thinking along the lines of those pully systems for storing bikes or canoes. And then making some sort of rack to hold it up long term. That way it could be right above the car's parking space in the garage.

The hardtop that I have can't weigh much more than 40-50 pounds (at the most). I can easily carry it around by myself, but it's easier with someone helping, just cuz of the size.
