1966,and a 1962 thats almost complete
WOW thats alot of car.

Its FAST,

Just digs in and goes. It drove like our C5 just docile. You would never think your driving a full out race car. Then you put your foot into it and the car just goes.

The people who designed this car really set the bar high I dont know how they could ever build some thing better then this. As a matter of fact I cant belive they built this one.

I dont know how some one who hasnt ever drove a fast car before will be able to learn how to drive it with out killing them self.

Yes, maybe you are right, and I cannot afford a new one, (probably could but would not want the high payments) but, I will give it a couple of years and then look for a recent used version and try it.

Don't sell your C5 Z short--the C6 is faster, but not nearly twice as much fun--I'm selling my 2002 Z, but if someone really wanted to buy my 2006 Z I would probably say OK, and just keep the 2002--it's that good.
Now if you compare with coupes, any Z is better than any generation of stock coupe.

The Z06 is fast~for a street car. It isn't fast for a purpose built racecar. It would need another 350+hp and lose another 12-1300lbs to be fast IMO. I've seen race prepped Corvettes get "killed" in brute acceleration by P962C's. Even from 40mph.

Thats a strange comparison, the 962C is a race car, the Z06 is not. You wont see a 962 with plates and 2 passengers.

I drove a C6-Z06 and think its fantastic. The total package and refinement. It really is more than a C5 with another 100 hp. Its almost unbelievable to have car that runs in the 11s on the street- with no heating the slicks or putting ice on the manifold and still even thinking about fuel economy and comfort.

70 grand is a bargin, the Nazies get quite alot more to even come close.

Yes,I guess it is a strange comparison, but it is the only one I had on video. Just amazing to see a racecar have 50mph on a "so-called" fast car while accelerating to 200mph.
You are right in that the "mileage efficiency" is astounding. Nothing else on the road like it. Don't get me wrong, the Z06 is a fine road car. They have super capabilities for the street. They have decent performance for the track, but they aren't a racecar. Then again a racecar doesn't have accoutrements either for the road. Since I don't get the opportunity to run on a track very often, the Z06 is a perfect car for me. (I do get people with other road cars to challenge me. I never oblige.)

Hey, send them my way--I must be in a pretty quiet town, because I have had my Z for almost nine months now and no real races, My license plate is 1A RACE (as in "Wanna race?"), but I think most people are scared off.
Some local guys are planning to rent a small airport out of town next month for drags and that should be fun--mostly Mustangs (Saleen, Cobra, etc).

Strange, the C6-Rs don't seem to have a problem. You're comparing apples to oranges in assessment anyway.

The Corvettes I'm referring to were C4 GTO class IMSA cars. Sorry for the miscommunication.
To be honest,I don't know how the C6-R's would stack up to the Group C 962's. (I'd certainly remove the "penalty weight" from the C6-R's though...)

I think you said a lot right there. I just hope to experience the same someday.

By the way, great review. :)

Give 'em hell! :_rock

I have a 2002 Conv 6 speed. Added open air cleaner and exhaust. Changed to 4.10 axle ratio. I think this car is fast. I have an absolute blast with it.

How would you compare to a new stock Z06.

I'm all set to buy and may start looking.

Thanks,

Chuck M

To put it bluntly - no comparison from a performance/handling perspective. The Z06 is a race car for the street. The 100+ horsepower advantage of the Z06 over your car really makes a difference. Is it worht the extra $$$, that's for you to decide. I had an '02 Z51 conv with intake and flow thru exhaust and loved it. The ONLY regret on the Z06 - you can't put the top down, but, you can lower both windows!!!! (Below 150mph that is).

Thanks vetmaniac,

Sounds to me that with C6's at way below MSRP, I can stay in a Conv 6 spd Z51, change the axle ratio to 4.10 as I did on the 02 and still go just as fast as I need to on the streets with plenty of change back from my 70K.

(AND I can keep the 02 doing it that way)

Can't believe I just said that. I must be getting old!!! Twenty years ago I would have sold eveything for the Z06 and think of the consequences later.

At least I still have the "one's not enough" attitude. ;)

Dude,
I have quite a few German friends (great people) and have owned both Porsches and Corvettes. They are both great cars. The german people and Porsche builders don't need to be called Nazi's; who are not great in any way shape or form.

Peace, there's enough war going on.

Funny you say that, that's exactly what I did to get the '06 Z06!!!! Screw getting old!
