Hey guys, I drove my 72 Vert home from cruise nite and got caught in a big rainstorm. This is the first time I have had the car in the rain. Well, I know why now!!! I had water running in both floorboards, lots of it!!! To top that off my wipers DON"T work. Door opens but NO wipers:mad :cry
Anyone had a leaking firewall (trough)under the wipers? Where can I get a replacement wiper motor? Fred

Fred,

Try your local NAPA store first, if they have it or can get it in a day or two it will be your best buy. If that fails, then Ecklers, Mid-America, or Zip will have it, online or through the catalog.

Fred,

Are you sure the wiper motor is bad? Did you check the wiper motor override knob between the two vac overrides under the steering column. Make sure of two things - 1) the override isn't turned off and 2) before buying a motor, jump the wires and make sure the motor is in fact dead.

By the way, I've found that even in a hard downpour, I get more water inside with the top up than with the top down. Top down that stuff just flies over the car and I stay dry as a bone:D.

You may also find that on these cars sometimes the upper console will break.:duh So you may need to check the ground here. This will also keep your wipers from working. You can make a small jumper and jumper the broken upper part to the lower part.

Hope this helps.:)

Water leak? In a Shark?
I tried it all, even bought the wind/water leak book. I installed new weatherstipping, It still leaks.
My best fix was keep it out of the rain. If you get caught in a storm hope for the best.

I ran water into the trough that the wiper linkage works are in. water leaks into the dash!!! lots of it. Any way to reseal the trough?

Well, I live in mobile alabama, right next to the gulf. and yep, thats right lots of hurricanes. And lots of regurlar thunderstorms. No garage, so the car gets rained on a lot. constant rain it will leak but just scarttered showers its okay. I thought i found the problem last week. I bought some urethane and sealed it up, making it look nice. next day. it flooded. i was so confident about my patch job, i ran downstairs and popped open the door only to find a lake in both floorboards. I was so frustrated. While i was sittin in the lake i noticed water runnin down the pillar of the windshield onto the weatherstripping of the door right near the door hinge. Where the kick panel molds around the body to look flush with the door panel: the water was runnin right behind the kick panel. So last nite i sealed it up with some silicone. Maybe this did the trick. because the weatherstripping sure isnt(brand new)

I knew I had read of a similar situation on here previously. This might help you out too.

Another area that I have had a problem with is the wiper transmission mounting plates. The sealant dries up and will let water leak in. I have had to take them loose and reseal them on 2 cars. Strip caulk works well.
