What Are These Rims?

I believe I am the third owner of my '95. The guy I bought it from wasn't sure about these chrome rims, but I am fairly sure they were not stock. Did this style of rim appear on any '95 or are they all aftermarket?

Thanks, Bob

Those look like chromed '95 stock wheels to me. A guy in my vette club traded his in for chromed ones. Cost him about $650 and his stock wheels. Same design except the chrome coat kina rounded the edges off a bit.

What do you think of the look, compared to the stock ones?

Looks like the basic "chrome sawblade" without the correct centercap.

The same wheel was stock on you car, except not in chrome. Check out my website, my 95 had the stock sawblades. You will see these wheels on many Corvettes from 93 to 96 model years.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. It sounds like the original rim was a "sawblade" style, probably polished aluminum or such. Mine sound like replacements, chromed, and with a different center.

Do I like them? Well, I am not 100% sure. The prior owner was more into show than go, and that is why the exterior was really in great shape. I told him when I bought it that I would certainly maintain its looks, but that I bought the car for driving (weekend runs, trips, etc.).

They sure are "pretty" but not quite the look I want to have. I am due for new tires sometime and it might be better to get new rims and tires, and then sell these when off. Is there a market (eBay, etc.) for used rims?

Thanks, Bob

Hey there
Yes, there is a market for used rims. As long as you have little or no curb rash on them and they are generally in great shape, there should be no problem selling them.

Do an eBay search for Chrome Sawblades or Chrome Corvette Rims.
Then check Completed Items to see what they have sold for in the past.

I had considered going with chromed sawblades on my 96 (my stock sawblades were very scuffed up by a prev owner) but found them "too flashy" and decided to snag a killer deal on some chrome C5 wheels instead.

You can see the factory wheels in my signature pic:

Flashy

Thanks, Rain. Well, talk about flash, I was in the local mall in lil' old Wilmington NC the other day, and somebody opened a rim store - yes, a real rim store, with a huge display - perhaps 5 or 6 dozen rims or more. But they were all chrome, all flash, and you needed sunglasses to walk in the store.

So, I guess flash (and spinners) are in!

There's a guy on Corvetteforum.com who wants to trade ZR-1-style 5-spoke rims for a set of chromed sawblades... go to the C4 parts-for-sale section.

As long as this is all about rims. Couple of mine are damaged and one seems to have a slight bend in it. I have a 90 and I have yet to see the style rims that are on it on any other yr. I have been searching for a place that has pictures of all the vette rims and their yrs but haven't found it yet. Anybody know of a sight. I need to find out if it is a one yr only rim, or if they have been changed. thanks .:)

with a slight bend in the rim, do you find it to stay in balance?

Snap a pic of your rims and post it on the forum.
Am sure someone will be able to tell you all about them.

Rain

Yes, 90 rims were unique. They were similar to the 89's, but without the lug nut cover, and had a thinner band than the 91's.

ok I will snap a picture in the morning and see if I can figure out how to attatch a picture in here. If it is a one yr rim I bet finding replacements that aren't gold plated is going to be a trick.:(

the balance isn't a problem but I can feel the wheel doing a little road slap.

Ok took a picture of my wheel. Hoping someone has at least two of these they want to sell. I have plenty of time as any day now snow will hit here and the vette goes in the garage till the snow is gone. I am quite certain with the good contacts in this forum I should be able to find some for a good price. This forum is the best thing I have found since I found my vette.:CAC

I have the chrome saw blades on my '90. I like the black and chrome look.

The chrome came as an option in 90 and 91.
There is a wheel shop in fountain valley california that can come up with about any wheel you want but the guy gets top dollar ,I'll try to get the site and number.

Hi CAC, I'm new to CAC and thought I'd throw in my .02 right off the bat. 91 was the first year of the saw blades stye wheel and was never offered as a chrome option from GM. That goes for the 89-90 style wheels "scav" have.

Hey NC2Stay...

I would reconsider those chrome saw-blades. 1. They look great against that red paint. 2. Those chrome wheels cleans up in no time with just soap and water- got to love that.

just my .02 cents worth. I like to stay pretty much original and in your case they are indeed original spec wheels for that year only they're chromed!

Enjoy...

Sully

Thanks, Sully. Well, actually, tho I hate to admit it, when I mentioned switching to my wife, she put her foot down hard. So, they stay!

And you are right about cleaning them - very easy.

Thanks, Bob

NC2Stay, Wheel Store in mall?

Wheel Store in a Mall? I've seen some of them on the main roads here in Charleston, SC. I've been waiting for someone to open a place for guys in a mall for years, and that's coming close.

I think a High Performance and Custom parts, with a wide screen and reruns of some of the "DIY" shows from Speed and Spike would be great for those of us with average amounts of testosterone, who greatly abhor candle and perfume shops, along with Victoria Secrets and shoe stores.

Yes, a real wheel store. Its a couple of guys from Atlanta, where apparently successful there, and decided to open a second store. Why in Wilmington NC, I don't know. But they have a large space, just covered with racks of wheels, lots and lots, and oher accessories such as some high end stereo stuff and headlight/taillight assemblies.

But, all chrome, and not cheap. I looked at a chrome headlight assembly for my F-150 and it was about $500, not installed.

That is the one issue with this place - they don't install - either wheels or accessories. I think this is going to be a big disadvantage for them.
