I am ready to strip my paint. What brand/s of stripper will work.? Any helpful hints welcome. Looks like I have 3 layers of paint, and 2 primer until I get to the gelcoat. Can I strip the paint and use spray can primer? The car may not get painted for a few months.

:confused Thanks,
64 Mike

I would not use spray can primer most would not be compatible with automotive paint use primer that is the same brand as the paint system you will be using :upthumbs steve

I used Aircraft brand stripper made for Fiberglass. It worked well. I scraped the dissolved paint off with a plastic scraper You may need to paint on a layer of stripper then scrape and paint on another layer and scrape again. After you chemically strip the car wipe the body with lacquer thinner to remove paint and stripper residue then wash several times with soap and water. Let the body sit and gas off for at least several weeks preferably in the hot sun. It is good you won't paint for several months this will allow the stripper gases plenty of time to escape from the fiberglass. No need to prime with a can. If you search this forum you will find plenty of info about paint systems from primer/sealers through top coat.

Klean Strip

Fiberglass safe and make sure you follow Studiog instructions. Wash with hot soapy water and wipe down with lacquer thinner.
