I am about to purchase my first vette, a 2000 Z51 coupe 6 spd, and would like to get it to around 500hp without forced induction. I would prefer to not have to change the cam. what parts packages would anybody recommend to achieve this? Thanks.

If you can get 500 HP without forced induction or a cam change, I want to know how to do that myself. Short of nitrous oxide, I don't see that you will be able to do it. You want to gain 150 HP. That is a bunch. There are other more knowlegeable people who may have some ideas, but I think that you will have to do heads and cam or forced induction.

i know it is a long shot, but if i have to swap the cam, i will....

Just wanted to welcome you to the :CAC and say thanks for your service!

I grew up just up Hwy 87 from Bragg in Sanford.

Good luck with your upgrade aspirations!

My 02 coupe has a Vortech supercharger with intercooler and with 7psi boost at WOT without any other mods, it dyno'ed at 443HP at the rear wheels and 402 ft-lbs of torque. That makes the motor right around 500HP. I also get a shade over 31MPG at 75 even with 42lb injectors.

For a naturally aspirated motor, you're looking at heads, cam and a good free flowing exhaust including headers.

Supercharging is expensive (lots more than nitrous) but the bottom can IMHO withstand the boost from a blower better than nitrous. And a supercharger is always there. No bottle to refill, turn on, or forget to hit the button. Granted, blowers are more much more expensive but the cool factor is also something when you lift the hood!

how much power do you think i could get from a 90mm fast intake, 90mm throttle body, 85mm maf, headers and exhaust, cai, and a reprogram? how much more would patriot's stage 3 heads add?

Gotta agree. Especially if you are talking 500 RWHP, it's not going to happen on the stock cam, even on nitrous.

is it possible to swap the cam with out removing the engine? how much of a pain would it be to swap it with theengine in the vehicle. there doesnt appear to be much room....

I have seen a couple of magazine articles where it was done while in the car. I believe that it requires that the radiator etc be removed. I have no personal experience.

Lingenfelter Performance Engineering will add 100 HP with their cam and heads package. But as others have said - to get a major lift in horse power you're going to have to crack open the engine and then have some very good PCM tuning done.

Go with a Supercharger. LPE or East Coast Supercharging. I have had mine for 3 years without any issues and I still get > 30 MPG highway. 435RWHP on the dyno. Newer ones with intercoolers have higher HP
