What are the upper part of the front wheel wells called that are attached to the hood?

And any ideas as to how mine got areas broken out? The driver's side has one area, the passenger's side two broken out areas. As the car came from IL, is this something that a snow/ice build-up might do?? I have got to get replacment pieces as I get small rocks and lots of dirts thrown-up into the engine compartment.

Thanks,
LannyL81

not sure what the exact name is however, in the later years, they are riveted in and the rivets alone are $$$$$$$$ :eek

Yes, broken from debris in the road flinging up

They are pretty tough and mine have been unaffected by the snow, I would believe that road debris IE rocks and lots of gravel would break them.

New ones still available

Did some searching at gmpartsdirect.com and found the part numbers for these wheelhouse panels....and just ordered a new set. Not real bad price wise...about $35 more than what I could have got a used set for.
Will need to get the rivets yet....anyone know what the size is on them? Need diameter and length.

Thanks,
LannyL81

Their prices aren't bad but just wait till you see their shipping costs! :L

Oh yeah....well aware of their shipping/handling costs....going to be $25, but still much lower than the price quoted by my local Chevy dealer. They sell at full retail price.

I figured the scrap yard was going to charge me about $15 for shipping, so $25 for each wheelhouse, plus sales tax (for me)...my total would have been around $65. I got the new pieces for $42 more. Still much better than the $69.76 each at my local dealer....would have bought the used ones then.

I also checked-out Brassington GM....their prices are just a bit more than gmpartsdirect.com.

Is there another dealership that sells GM parts for good prices that does not have the high shipping/handling charges?

Yep... Superior Chevy in Kansas City, Missouri. They will give you great prices on Corvette Parts and will not kill you with shipping. Just give Chris May a call at 800-728-8267 and tell him you heard about him on CAC.

You also might check the supporting vendors section. They will generally bend over backwards for members.

GM Parts Direct's shipping costs are a misnomer they list their cost as the sales price and add their mark up to the shipping. Chris at Superior adds great personnalized service to the mail order equation.

I use both since many times cost counts more than service!
