What does it take to bypass a 81 computer?

Bypass computer

JohnD,

I do not know how to do it, but a good mechanic will be able to swap your system over. I have a Mallory ignition system and blaster 3 ignition coil. To eliminate the computer controlled carby, a previous owner put a Holley 650 CFM double pumper on there. I took it off recently and used it as a boat anchor, replacing it with an Edelbrock 795 CFM QJet (carb 1903).
This carb is an exact replacement and will look the same as your original carb except for the Edelbrock badge.

Cheers

Tony

Hey John, auto trans. or manual? Are emissions an issue? I did this with an 3rd generation Trans Am with great success. A HEI vac. advance distributor and aftermarket carb with either manual or electric choke. Other than that and a piece of black electrical tape to cover up the check engine light and you're ready. peace :cool

B/QUOTE] hello this is mark from star machine in va,i read what you wrote about by passing the puter,so my question is the only thing the puter controls is the carb and ignition?

On the '84 trans am it controlled the carb, timing, and locking up the tourque convertor of the 700r auto trans. Bud
