1994, artic white, zo7, coupe, with a six speed.
As I was cruising it the vette early Thursday morning on I-94, in Chicago, Towards downtown. I cruised past a new mustang V6, and shortly after it comes zooming by me. As you all know I did not bite; why waste gas on a V-6.
Anyway, traffic becomes congested and i cruise by him again, giving him the thumbs down! As I continued to drive, it dawned on me, why would someone buy a new mustang V-6, when they could have had a clean C4 for the same money with much better performance?:blue:

Maybe they like the styling? The new Mustangs seem to be the next "big thing" right now. A lot of people like them. Their styling isn't shabby, IMO.

Maybe they think the C4's are slow? Maybe they think all Corvette's are too expensive?

Maybe they want a back seat, maybe they want a new car and a warranty, maybe they grew up on Fords.

Maybe he just cruised by you so he could hear you open her up!

Everybody likes different cars, and not everybody can drive the car they prefer.

What surprises me is how many of the new V6 Mustangs you see. For a few extra bucks they "coulda had a V8!"

Yeah, most of the ones I see are the V6 ones. The dealerships must be putting a big premium on the GT's, especially after the car magazines have been raving about them for a few months.

Supposedly Ford makes a bigger profit on the V6's, so they're making more of them. Some parts of the country have a 6-week waiting list for the V8, although supposedly Texas has plenty (according to AutoWeek's letters column).

Ford has Winner with the new Rustang! The retro+ is fantastic. It is REALLY dissapointing to see all the six's :confused

The nice ones are classic already ,there aren't that many around. The sheeple have spoken ;LOL Looks is all they want. Bwwwwahhhhhaaaaaaaa. We Know don't we ;LOL

this is the problem I have with Mustang,Camaro, and the Firebird. They all offer a cheaper version with the V6. Thats what I love about Vette's you know when you see 1 theres no doubt about it -it's got some muscle under the hood!

My parents still have our '65 Mustang that we bought new in San Diego,California and took with us pretty much all over the world (my father was in the Navy). My mother loves the '65, and the new Mustang is the first one she's really liked in years. I think it's great, too, and what I really like is how it looks like the best of the Mustangs from the 1960s but somehow does not look "retro" weird like the Thunderbird does. Performance, looks and price---Ford hit the bullseye with the new Mustang, and it's also fun to see all the aftermarket hot rod stuff for it. It's simple, too, which I like.

They may not all have V8's under the hood... :cool

I have also been looking for a more modern Corvette with a 6 cylinder in it just for laughs... can't seem to find any right now :eyerole

Well, it depends on how you look at it. The Mustang or F-body is a sporty car with a decent V6, much like a lot of the "sports" cars in it's class, celicas, 240 SX's, and so on. But you have the option of adding some really hot performance with a V8 available.

Most of those cars are sold with a V6. If they dropped it, those cars probably wouldn't exist at all.

You know, some people just don't want the V8. Some people just want a sporty looking car and if it has a V6, it has a V6. They have less insurance, mileage, etc... to worry about.

Those Mustangs look pretty sick IMO. I really like the lines, and how they represent the older cars. I think they hit it out of the park with that. To bad the General doesn't do anything like that.

Your right! A modern day split rear window or convertible retro design would be very cool..IMO

I'm with most others on this one, the Mustang is as much a part of american car muscle as the corvette. I have fond memories of my brother's 72 mustang grande, it was a beautiful car and he kept it spotless, it was a blast to drive. I can see why people would want a mustang, it's a bit more practical than a Corvette, you can carry more people. I like the look of the new mustang, the interior is beautiful and the exterior styling is nice too. Also, if you wanted a v8 you could get it. We rented one in San Francisco recently. As nice as the new ones are, however, my heart will always belong to the corvette.

On the money :beer They don't ALL look the same, and they aren't the same. You KNOW when there's a good one, comin' or goin', and it's been the same for all time, far as I can member for the "stang" Vette's RULE, and always will :r :D

I have owned several mustangs and some were 6's and some V8, you bought what you could afford, I look at my vette and know what I have but don't knock the "stangs" they will probaly pull Ford motor way out in front of GM, I haven't really seen anything GM is selling that looks as good or has caught the appeal of the public like Ford mustang has, GM has dropped all the muscle cars except GTO and most people can't afford a Vette. Save the:w

I heard that GM is planning to retro a Camaro? Has anyone else heard this? If I was over GM I would retro a couple of different Vettes and put a big sticker on them along with limited production. They would sell!! I think they might need the money right now.

An early 70's retro would be great as a 'stang rival. They'd stack up well if GM could get the look right. I've heard nothing on it though.

Yeah, but they're already way behind the Mustang and the Charger so even if they got things going real fast, they'd still be too far behind to make any difference.

But what happens after the retro thing wears off after 2 or 3 years?
