What happened to the thread with the white beta pics?

Go to GM-cars.com and knock yourself out. After yesterday's initial disappointment, I started comparing the hood in the shot to a C5. Left me very confused. The Power Bulge in the center stays high all the way to the front end of the hood - like a C2. The sides of the hood at the front appear to have downward shaped "wings" as if they are part of the curve of the front fender. This would make a very abrupt, VERY SHORT overhang indeed. ..... or all of this is camo to hide the real appearance.

Who knows!!:confused

I agree that the pic didn't show much, but I found it wierd that the thread disappeared. CAC, you're not pulling a CF, are ya?;shrug

I can't find that thread either!!!!!!!!!!!!! What is going on?

Her is the picture.
c6beta.jpg

Thw whole hood sort of sits up thats the reason for the wings

I took that thread offline for a couple of reasons.

To be totally honest with you, that picture didn't show a thing which is one problem I have with it. I also have a problem with the way it was presented here.

Correct me if I'm wrong:

1. Those pictures appear to be secretly taken without the consent of GM. Am I wrong? If so, I stand corrected.

2. As I stated above, what exactly are we supposed to see in those pictures? That could very easily be just about anything covered under a white tarp - assuming that's what we're supposed to be focusing on and not the guy sitting in the car...

3. Everyone that posted replies in that thread after seeing those pictures basically thought it was a big joke. Once again, I try to carry just a little bit of concern for the validity and integrity of the information that is posted in these forums.

Last but not least, I'm just a little bothered that because I chose to take that thread off line, we are being questioned if this is another CF?

This isn't the CorvetteForum, and I'm not Troy Roberts. What Troy chooses to do with his web site is his business and if he wants to delete all the threads in any one of his forums, he has the right to do so without having to take a bunch of flack from his members. If GM comes knocking on his door asking him to remove pictures that were not officially released by them, and he chooses to abide by GM's request, that is his perogative. The same holds true for the Corvette Action Center.

As I have posted in these forums time and time again:

Due to the nature of this site, I would like to ask that forum members try and insure that the information they post publicly here in the forums is, to the best of their knowledge, accurate and reliable. I am not fond of posts such as "Guess what I saw on the floor at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant today...." etc. While it may seem like exciting information, in most cases, it's 100% completely inaccurate and causes rumors to start. It goes against what this site stands for. Certain information and future plans for Corvette development are classified by GM and they are classified for a reason. I would appreciate it if members respect GM's desire to keep certain information confidential.

Now, I'm just as excited about the C6 as everyone else is and I would love to be the first to get information on it before everyone else does, but I am more than willing to wait for information to be officially released by GM. I DO NOT want to give GM a reason to come knocking on my door to ask me to remove pictures off this web site.

And before I start hearing or seeing people post false rumors: no, the Corvette Action Center receives ZERO financial support from GM so that is NOT why I am taking the stance that I am taking on this issue.

I'm not trying to be a hard-ass here, but that's where I stand on this.

Rob,

" So, what's the story behind the picture you're about to look at?
Well, sometime last week, in preparation for the New York Auto Show, GM released a slew of "B-Roll" video footage for some of the upcoming attractions. Usually "B-Roll" video only shows a vehicle driving around, standing still, or has a product manager talking about a vehicle and its upcoming features. "

GM gave up the shot. But you are right about the hype and the post-disclosure frustration.

However, Are you saying that any spy shots are not welcome on the site?

Ok, I understand then.

As far as spy shots being unwelcome on the site...I'm split 50/50.

My main concern is that I have no desire to upset anyone at GM by allowing spy shots to be posted here. I don't want to give them a reason to come knocking on my door.

I respect that which is expected to remain confidential and I will do everything I can to uphold that desire to keep certain information and media confidential. Obviously, I can't control everything, but I will do my best to try here.

However, on the other hand, I would have to play devil's advocate and ask: how do spy photographers such as Jim Dunne take their spy photos, publish them in magazines, and get away with it? Basically, there is no difference between having spy photos published on a web site and published in a magazine.

So....in all honesty, in answer to your question, I'm 50/50 on the subject while leaning towards the side of conservatism.

Since I'm somewhat known for my way with words :eek, let me say ;)

In the big scheme of things, "The Corvette Action Center Community" is a very small player in the Corvette World. CAC membership is over 7,000 while Corvette ownership and enthusiast’s number in the millions.

Rob is basically a one-man show here at CAC. He is the Website Designer, webmaster, Tech. Writer, Sales Manager, CEO, CFO and Business Manager and any other terms you want to include. Rob also keeps CAC a FREE site to all members, while working at a "Normal" job and supporting and maintaining the Corvette Action Center and Corvette Action Center Community.

He has NO affiliation or support from GM or any of GM's subsidiaries. He is Stand Up Guy. What you see is what you get with Rob. I've met him and still don't understand how he can maintain all this, a "Normal Job", side jobs and still have time for a "Normal Life". He is truly an amazing young man!

I'm sure GM knows what goes on here and in the more popular website when it comes to their products. Big Corporations have the resource and what-for to make anyone's life a living hell, if they chose too.

I support what Rob said here. 95%-99% of the time I agree with his actions, I support him and what he does here 100%

There is NO FINE LINE being walked at CAC, we want to be THE one stop information center and repository of "The Corvette", provide a web presence of a community dedicated to the preservation of Support, Information and Involvement. To this end I for one do not want to do anything that would or could jeopardize the mission of the CAC.

It's not the shotgun approach to quantity, but a desire to be focused and maintain the quality of what we stand for.

WHAT!?!?!? ONLY 95%-99% of the time?? What happened to that 4-5% remaining!? NO PAY FOR YOU!

Wow....thanks Bud. You actually put it into perspective much better than I ever could have!

I sympathize with the CAC official position, and I think I understand it. However, as you say, the zines all get by with publishing spy shots and they (no offence) reach many, many more people than CAC. I don't understand why GM would single out CAC or any other site, unless they own they magazines.

Well, since no one has any good spy shots of the C6 yet, I guess this is all somewhat moot. But the day is coming when you will make a decision to either beet the zines, or wait for them (usually 2 months lead time - shorter with Autoweek) to publish the shot. Good luck.

By the way, I think you have a great forum.

Rob and the other administrators really seem to enjoy the forum and so do I. It's a great job that you do Rob... don't think that I would compare you to Troy. Heck... I don't even know Troy... or you, for that matter!!! I just get a better feeling here from the people running the forum and the flavor of the forum. Thanks again.

Hummm ... Maybe I should keep my mouth shut, but I'll give you a different perspective on these issues without going into too much detail.

Long ago ... On a planet far, far away ... I had a huge website dedicated to Corvettes. It had lotz of accolades (magazines, video, GM engineers, surfers, etc) and was *FIRST* (website or magazine) to post detailed pictures of the C5 before it was unveiled at the NCM (I thought that was kool <g>). Keep in mind that I solely supported the website in creation, design, updates and financial costs ... There were no paying sponsors and I never made a cent off the website.

As circumstances would have it, I was up late one night working on updates when an email arrived ... It was a cease and desist order from a representative of GM's Legal Department. They claimed I was an illegal business and had violated trademark infringements ... It was very upsetting.

I tried to explain I was just an enthusiast promoting Corvettes ... But they were too busy to bother with a punk like me. Basically, nobody from this department had a clue about the internet back in the 90's ... They weren't even online, but it seemed they were out to bust my ballz. It cost me a lot of time, money and aggravation ... The problem dragged on for a few years, so I redirected my energy and volunteered to be the webmaster for the NCM. Eventually, I pulled 95% of my website and left a small section dedicated to my own '66 Vette.

I realize that times have changed and the rules are somewhat different ... But sometimes you folkz place Rob in a difficult position with the content of your postz. Even though Rob may make an unpopular decision, I understand and support what he feelz is best for the Community.

Ciao,
Jack

Maybe it's just me, but those pictures look contrived. Sort of the "video game", or Max Headroom look to them.

I have never understood the recent "CF" type comments. Especially those directed to Rob. What any web site operator chooses to allow/disallow on his site is solely his decision and his business and if he chooses to exclude an individual's participation and/or content in a public forum then so be it.

BTW - The "Zs" in place of the "Ss" IMO is silly, childish, trite and annoying. But thatz just me'nz opinion.

I agree with KOPBET. This is Rob's site and he can do whatever he pleases. Coming here doesn't cost me a dime and I enjoy every minute of it. Whatever Rob chooses to do with C6 info, I will respect. I have yet to see the staff here at CAC to be unreasonable about different subjects. They have always been up front and honest.

Thanks Rob and all the Moderators, you are doing a great job!

The reason why it is so difficult for Rob to allow spy shots here is simply the bully rule. If I go out and take a public picture of a C6, GM really can't take any action against me. If I post it here, they could find something to get CAC shut down if they wanted to. A large magazine like motor trend etc. has far greater pull and power than a web site, so GM can simply bully CAC around if they so choose.
