Yes, what if, I wanted to rip an ECU (the main computer) out of a wrecked C5 and install it in my '04?......for now, let's just "assume" mine got trashed somehow.

What all is needed to be done in order to accomplish this job?

Assuming that the tune state, model year, and transmission/differential were identical, you'd need a Tech-2 to flash your VIN into the PCM.

Ok, so I get the VIN flashed onto the new PCM. If there were differences in the tune, differential, etc, what is preventing them from being addressed afterwards with some software such as EFI Live, or equilivant?

For that matter, why couldn't EFI Live be used to "flash" the information from the one PCM over to the new PCM, (irrespective of the VIN)?

I mean, the PCM doesn't REALLY "know" what the VIN of any particular vehicle is, does it?.....I figure the PCM is just "locked" to a certain specific VIN....and would "assume" (hope you understand what I mean) that the PCM really wouldn't know it was in a "different" vehicle, right?

I'm not trying be argumentive here......I honestly don't know....that's why I am asking.

It's not as simple as that!! And yes the vin of your vehicle is like Prago"It's in there"!! There are several different ones depending on Year,Transmission,Engine and other options!! And say it would run,(some will) the other bad thing would be if you have to have emissions inspection in your state,it will print out the wrong Vin on the paperwork!!:upthumbs
