What is the equivalent of Part #9636067?

Is the sealant called for in the service manuals (Part #9636067) similar to the black silicone sealant ...

... available from Permatex? :confused​

I ask because the black stuff is already in my toolbox and if I don't need to spend the money I won't. ​

The torque arm on an '87, John. The service manual calls for PN 9636067 or equivalent, but I can't see a reason for any particular type of sealer. The black stuff should work just fine I guess.

I was also going to use the black sealant on the rear differential cover. Will that do, or should I go back to the rack full of Permatex products and get something else? I couldn't believe how many different types of sealants/gasket makers there are nowadays; my head is still swimming after looking through a ton of sealants/gasket makers today! :crazy

Should work fine - I know what you mean about the racks jammed with sealants; I guess I'm a Luddite - I just stick with good old Permatex Form-A-Gasket #2 and Permatex Ultra-Copper Hi-Temp RTV "Gasket-Maker" and ignore most of the rest of them. So many decisons, so little time...

Thanks John. I'll use the black stiff on the torque arm, but I picked up some "PERMATEX® MotoSeal® 1 Ultimate Gasket Maker - GREY" for the differential cover.

It's sorta funny, even the Permatex catalog, where they indicate the various applications for their products, is contradictory in what is recommended. The left hand can't seem to agree with the right. :L
