1986 Red 4+3 Coupe
So there is this "non-running" '85 in my town, and I think the lady is ready to talk $$$ with me. I am looking for some advice on an appropriate price to offer. Let me give you the rundown. BTW, it is from a "family" friend so she's PURPOSELY trying to scam me...

Car is:

'85 Coupe
4+3
I forgot the mileage
Ran great until she broke her leg and could not work clutch...

The Good:
Beautiful almost mint paint job
Weatherstrip in GREAT condition
Interior is about as good as it can get (no cracks no fades!!)
No rust on metal parts
No cracks in windshield
No damage to fiberglass
All original
Driven by an old lady

The Bad:
Front middle "airdam" lip gone (hit a curb i'm sure)
No keys! (long but true story)
Has not moved since august, has not been started in over a YEAR!
One flat tire (I have spares that will a 'vette though)

So what do you guys think this car is worth? I'm thinking between $4000 and $4500?

one yr old that shouldnt be too hard to get going. We got my impala going after 20 and it wasnt all that difficult. Sounds like a good car especially the mint paint job.

Id check (KBB.com) blue book, then make deductions for items that need replacement or are in poor condition.

but what would be a fair price for it??
Depends on the mileage, but for a non-running '85 I wouldn't pay more than $4000 for it. Check out eBay, C4 coupes can be had for cheap

I'd be curious as to how much it would cost and how much work it'd be to replace those keys or if you have to get it re-keyed.

If you needed parts, there is Vette2Vette out in Morris that can help you. I don't think Morris is too far away from Plainfield.

I agree with others - mileage is too important of a factor here to ignore. Even with low mileage, $4000 might be too high if there would be significant other expenses involved. On the other hand, a front air dam and replacement keys shouldn't really be that expensive so if tires, brakes, fluids, clutch, overdrive, etc are all ok, $4000 might be cheap. Of course you have already thought of this or you wouldn't be asking the question. It's almost impossible for a person who has not examined it, to give a valid opinion on a 20 year old car.
My daughter lives very close to you in Minooka. I'd be willing to combine a visit with a trip to go with you to look at the '85 to offer a non-expert opinion.
I would suggest you first find out if the seller has a price in mind - might suprise you and come in lower than what you think.

If you need parts, Vette2Vette Corvette salvage has moved to Streator, IL - still only about an hour's drive from Plainfield. Their phone number is now 815.673.6200 and they can also be reached at www.Vette2Vette.com.

Thanks for the offer! I will let you know once I get an idea of what she's trying to get for the car... I appreciate the help!
