just wondering if any one knows what other GM car i can get a bose radio out of that well fit into my 1986 vette? some have seen here a camero radio will work but not sure of the years that will hook right up? did other GM cars have bose radios in them, or i am i wrong on this switch all together???
thanks guys!

I had a problem with mine in my '86. A local repair shop had one on the shelf that he said came out of a Cadilac. It was the same size but because it was newer he had to get an adapter harness for the wiring that was available from an electronics supplier.

do i need anything else to make this work in my vette? IE other wire hook ups or some thing? seems to good to be true!!

anybody else done this camaro radio swap, wondering what else i need to make this work before i just decide to rip out all the old bose stuff and go with new after market speakers and radio.

I haven't but when I had my radio in my '86 swapped out for a newer version out of a Cadilac it did require a wiring harness adapter. The shop here in Boise ordered the adapter and did the swap. I have tried to keep my car as close to original as I can. The cost for the newer radio, adapter, and installation (which is very simple) was $170.

Sorry I don't have more details.

Regardless of what others say you can put an aftermarket CD player in your car. I did it, and the sounds was fine, until the speakers finally gave way. This could have been partly because of the new CD player, but also were 19 years old. The installation kit you get from a store will work fine. You can hook up the CD player to the stock body side harness, adn the installation kits look pretty good. This way when you do decide to use new speakers you can just put the speakers in. Also regardless of what others say, you do not have to rewire the whole car, you can use existing wires.

Cant hook the new CD player up to the bose speakers direct though, the impedance of the bose is like 3 ohms or soemthing like that.

Some Mazda 929's and Nissan Maxama with Bose Syst. are the same Too!! :upthumbs gmjunkie!!

i am not real worried about a CD player right now, just need a radio for right now.

Heres what you can do: a 1994-1996 Camaro Bose AM/FM/CD player will bolt right in. No wiring mods required. Or, if you wnat an aftermarket, look for a Pioneer DEH-P47DH radio (AM/FM/CD). Can get one on ebay for about $150, as compared to the $500 wanted by Corvette America, Mid America Motoroworks, or Ecklers. Then, all you need is a $40 adapter from Scosche (find this on Crutchfield's website), that plugs directly into the radio and then perfectly connects to your existing Vette wiring. NO MODS REQUIRED!!

I have an 88 and have researched this extensively. Still trying to win a bid on ebay for the radio (either the Pioneer or the Camaro), so I can put one in myself!! I keep getting outbid at the very last few seconds of the night (around midnight) and lose it.

Hope this helps ya!!

i need to try the cass part of my bose to see at least if my bose speakers work?? i have no idea right now! theres no sense getting another bose radio if the bose speakers are dead too. right now all my bose radio doses is light up when head lights are on, and reads 1:00.

I just plugged the Pioneer numbers into Ebay (EBay Motors) and there are several of these for about $170 (brand new) "Buy it Now" price---take a look. You're right, as this is the one MidAmerica is selling for $500! I wonder what gives---perhaps MidAmerica ordered too much genuine Corvette underwear and need to make up the money elsewhere. Incidentally, when I got my 89 Ebay rat, the owner had installed an aftermarket CD/Radio, and the rear speakers work fine but the front ones are silent. Before I get into the speakers and dash to figure it out and check for the obvious problems, is there something about the front Bose speakers vs. the rear ones that makes this a common problem? Frankly, why anyone would want to fiddle with the Bose system is beyond me---what a hassle based on all the posts and for what, a radio! There are so many perfectly reliable systems around for so much less, only the matching numbers crowd could go with this one.

What type of aftermarket radio did he put in? The biggest concern is the wiring and how he wired it. For greater ease, the Scosche adaptor is a must for the Pioneers. It also has adjustable ouputs to it too so you can "set" them if need be. Check it on Crutchfields site. Here's info from Cructhfields site:

Installation Details for your 1988 Corvette

» Because your vehicle is factory-equipped with a special sound system, Crutchfield recommends that you purchase an adapter. This adapter eliminates the need for extensive and time-consuming re-wiring when you install your new receiver. In some cases, not using an adapter will make it necessary to replace the entire factory sound system, including the speakers.
OEM Amplifier Integration v.4 $39.99
» Caution! You will need to modify your vehicle to install this product. We strongly recommend contacting a Crutchfield Sales Advisor to discuss your installation and your options. Modifications may include cutting wires, plastic, or metal, and may include fabricating brackets, panels, or other parts, and the installation instructions or guides we may be including do not cover these modifications. Once your vehicle has been modified, it may not be possible to return it to the factory specs or appearance.
» Unbolt or cut out the factory stereo's rear support bracket to make room for your new receiver.
» Use the brackets that came with your factory stereo to install your new receiver.
And, here's the link for the amp/adaptor:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-rORFmwt9UTj/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=142C4GM01

It fits 1982 and up GM vehicles. The mods it talks about are simply to remove the bracket form the rear of th radio, that is in the car. The best I can tell, this is fairly easy to do. A little time consuming though, as its in a tight space...(gee, in a Corvette, who'd have thunk it!!)

Good luck to everyone!! I am going to get one as soon as soon as I find out if my car is ok from the recent "flooding" it took (see "Bad day At work" in General Discussion forum.) Anyone else has questions, I will try to answer as best I can, until I actually get one to put in.
