Well, we did the oil survey, the spark plug survey, and now how about the spark plug wires? What's everbody using, and why did you decide on them over other brands? I'm getting ready to put a new set of wires on my 77 which has headers, and I'm considering going with Accel Extreme 9000's. Does anyone have experience with them or have a better suggestion? I'm going over the top of the valve covers with them as opposed to underneath behind the headers. Also any suggestions on wire looms also?

Accel 300+ Ferro-Spiral 8.8 mm (you cut & crimp to fit). They're in black only. For 77 w/ HEI use P/N 7031.

I'm currently using MSD's 8.5 mm Super Conductor wires from Summit. Bear in mind that most all of the spark plug wires on the market come from the same supplier (Taylor Cable Products for one), so shop wisely. ;)

By the way, do you want this moved to the General Tech forum, where a broader spectrum of our technological membership will see it? ;shrug

I went with the regular ole' AC Delco wires. Works well so far.

That's the wires Smokey had a hand in developing I believe. Only it was called something different; Blue-something else, or something-Blue. ;)

I think next time around I'll get some red ones as too. I heard they are really faster and maybe a easy 100 HP upgrade. I have chrome valve covers and I know that added a few hundred HP.
Maybe with another coat of Zaino I can get down into the 9's.

I was always told that bright orange and bright green are the real HP adders. Put a big picnic table wing on there and you've got yourself another 150 horses.

I have always used Accel and currently have a set of their 300+ race wires, they have a kevlar sleeve and it protectes them from hot headers so for me worth the extra cost.

I use dated Delco wires for my Corvettes; for project cars, I use MSD Heli-Core 8mm wires - I buy the "universal" set, route them neatly, and then cut each wire to the correct length and terminate them (tool included with the wire set). Can't stand the cars I see at shows with pre-terminated "custom-fit" wires that are all about a foot too long and look like a spaghetti nightmare, especially when they're some God-awful luminescent color. Neatness counts :D

Red ones. They are noticeably faster than the blue ones.

The red ones definitely work better on the LT4. Compatibility problems with any other color. I have heard black ones can be used temporarily in an emergency.

You guys are killing me. ;LOL
