Im getting new wheels and tires next week. I am getting 17 inch torque thrust II's. I need to know what bolt size circle, or part number fits on a 78 c3. I know a lot of you other guys have these rims on your c3. Im putting at least 275's, but hopefully 295's on the rear....so what size rims do i need....im thinking most likely 17x9.5 is gonna be needed to fit meats of that size. Will these fit without a problem? Do I need to get different size rims for the front since im only gonna be putting 255's on the front?

Hello joshs78sleeper,

You didn't say if you had fender flares or not. If not I would go with a set of 18x9.5" in the rear with 4.5" backspace. For the front a set of 17x8" with 3.5 backspace should do fine. Both need to be 5 lug 4-3/4" bolt circle or 120.65mm. A good choice for rear tires could be a 285/45/18 and 255/50/17 for the front. You could go about 2" bigger on the rear rim if you had the offset rear control arms. You can see in the pic that the offset arms give you more room. Also watch out for caliper spacing. :crazy

No I do not have fender flares. Well hopefully the specs you gave me should work. Like I said, I cant check them before I buy, so hopefully they fit.

Unless you are just dead set on the Torque thrust, I suggest you contact.

Ask for Lynn or Dave and mention that Chris McDonald referred you. They have some awesome rims, and the Vista is VERY popular with the retro cutting edge design.

Here is my thinking. The torque thrust thing was very popular about 3 years ago. Now, it is very common to see all kinds of late model and classic cars running them. I like to stand out from the crowd a bit.

Dave is very good with Vette applications and can put you on the spot for the most accurate wheel spacing considering a stock fender flare.

I am running the Pentia wheel, and it happens to be my personal favorite.

Either way, good luck, and have fun!

Chris

For your model car (no chrome),

I like the idea of this rim

or this rim

My factory 80 rims are 15x8 with 4" backspacing (0 offset). I think 3-1/2 back spacing (front wheels) is to little for an 8" wheel. 4" backspacing will put you at 0 offset just like factory and ensure you will clear the calipers. Also, on the front you probably do not want to exceed 255 series tires. Otherwise they will stick out of the fenders and probably rub the frame. My 255 tires already just touch the frame on a full turn.

I agree that the crome torque thrust is over used. On the other hand, I'm looking at an original set of torque thrust wheels with the gray centers. I never see anyone using them the way they were originally designed (gray centers). They are 15" so I can keep the classic look versus the 17" big wheel look. Of course this is a very subjective subject with lots of opinions.

I agree that a lot of people use the torque thrust's....but i do like them, and right now i can get a very good deal on them. I cant go making custom orders, but i can get a hold of the TT II's very cheap...so although its something that everyone has, i still like them and its worth the deal to me. But thanks for the opinions guys :)

In regards to caliper clearance, the wheel back space has no bearing. I was referring to the design of the wheel which can rub the caliper when installed. I agree with 69MyWay on wheel selection. You can also try KMC. I chose the Stealth wheels.

I used polished AR 136 wheels on my 75. They are 15" and fall bet the old style wheels and the newer designs. They don't have any backspace problems and both right up clearing the calipers w/o any spacers. I always get good comments on them.
