What Tires Do You Have On?

Newton says that tires are made to do three things, but they can't do them all. Only one. For instance, if you have dry tires (I think that's what they're called) their grip is great for racing. But the downside to them are in wet conditions and if you have a bad chassis. Apparently, if you have a rusted and/or weak chassis, then that torque can be too much for it. So, that sounds pretty risky with those tires.

I just learned about this and I was wondering what you prefer to put on your Vette? I guess it's good to have all-weather tires on during the year, and if you go racing just change the tires then. Is that what most of you do (if you race)?

Thanks! :D

i don't race, or go out in the rain. but no matter - my tires are original... :s

Pretty much summed it up yourself TR.

Usually if you have to do that people just run slicks. That can be extremely hard on a lot of things. Mostly your drivetrain.

To be worried about something like that you have to be making some serious power/torque. More torqe for that matter.

Pickup a copy of some kind of racing mag and you'll see cars popping wheelies with the body of the car actually twisting. If you have something like that the only place your going to be running it is in the track anyways. So don't sweat it.

Like I had mentioned there are "street legal slicks" i.e. Nitto 555r's and BFG DR's. These can be run in the street. In fact I saw a Cyclone this morning running BFG DR's 315's on ZR1 black rims in the back. Needles to say :eek.

Besides when your running some serious power normal tires are just not going to do, you are going to need more traction or else your going to be going all over the place on normal tires like if the floor was wet anyways.

Okay, thanks guys! That's pretty much what I figured. Slicks are tough with torque. I'll probably get all-season tires (or maybe stock, not sure) and then if I get serious about racing and my future Vette can handle the torque, I'll use those tires occasionally. Thanks! :D
