Tomarow i am going to look at an 85, i was just wondering if theiris any thing i sould be aware of that are special to a vet? It is a 4+3car.

As a side note just how is the od used? Do you run it like a 4 speed and then flik a switch for od, do you use it evert gear Ex. 1, 2, 2od, 3, 3od, 4, 4od, or is it like a class 8 truck where you run the 1-4 switch the od in and run 1-4 again?

I'm sure WhalePirot will see this and give you some good info.

From what I understand with the OD switch on it basically has 12 gears. The normal 4 and then 3 OD's in each gear.

Other than the tranny everything else is pretty much the same as the other C4's.

Nope. Too many gears here. It is 4 PLUS 3, not 4 TIMES 3. It is like a regular 4 speed but with OD in top three gears of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Hence the 4+3 designation.
It can be switched off or left on. The OD can be switched off for around town driving or left on but it then becomes a pain in the a$$ because it will go into OD by itself at a certain speed.
I use my OD only on the highway but from what I hear, some guys like to use all seven gears. Fun to drive in any case.
The OD unit needs to have regular fluid (auto trans fluid) and filter changes for longevity (this unit is basically a 2 speed powerglide). Try to find out if the 85 has had this service. If not, and you buy it, that's one of the first maintenance items to perform. The OD units were improved in 86.
There's lots more to know about them. I'm sure others can add much info.
