Hello all,

My dad is about to buy a 1980 Stingray (his favorite car from back in the day), and I offered to help him find some info.

I was wondering what things to watch for when buying this car?
This is something he wants to use as a daily driver, and store in the winter.

I don't want him to be disappointed if the car is in the shop for half the summer.

Thanks in advance,
Mark

Welcome Steel Blue!

Welcome to Corvette Action Center.
I would recommend buying the best vette you can afford. Preferably one that has been pampered and taken care of, whose owner has receipts for major work done and also has been driven regularly.

I am a fan of high mileage vettes because I feel the high mileage represents many reliable miles of smiles. Also, with higher mileage, the major work has mostly been done for you. (brakes, drivetrain, suspension et cetera...)

Click on the tabs and find the Buyers Checklist. This list may seem like overkill, but I guarantee if you have it with you and use it methodically...you won't forget that crucial question!
Good luck in your search!

I would be very careful with they as they never made a 1980 "stingray". Does it have the stingray badges on it ??

I own an 81 , very simulat. A few things I ran into you may want to check are.

Dock lock / wondow switch's and motors
Body mounts, espexially in the rear wheel well.
Power steer pump / hoses
Rear spring, make sure it is still bowed in the back

And just the usual other stuff.

Check brake, exhaust, fluids, frame ..etc.
As for service records if avalible.

Rust!!! Especially where the rear trailing arms meet the frame, where the frame ends at the rear fenders, and the windshield fram at the upper corners...
