I have another thread going related to what tires will fit but I am getting conflicting infor on what the stock tire size was. I want to make sur that watever I replace it with has the same overall diameter so the speedo stays accurate.
IT looks like a GR70-15 (whatever size that was) was standard.
I have heard from many that a 225/60-15 was stock but the tire dealer (a reputable guy) says it was a 225/70-15 any one know for certain?
Thanks.
Scott

tire size

The 225/70/15 is very close the the stock size. I have 255/60/15 Dunlops on mine and so far so good. They have about 1500 miles on them, don't know how long they will last. While the fit is very close in the front... I have yet to get them to rub.:Steer

The Coker tires web site (www.coker.com) has a matrix with tire sizes so you can match sizes from different eras--they say 225/70-15 matches the G7015 size. Andy

225/70/15 is what the original tire size translates to. I've been running that size on my '76 without issue. I'm going up in size to the 255/60/15's that were introduced on the '78 pace car and optional in later years. NO, they don't rub. Just ask thumper, who has run the larger size on his '76 for years. Best of all, it looks GREAT!!!

Maybe this will ease your mind...

I have run the 225/70R/14's for nearly 10 years, which as earlier noted are the modern equivilent to the stock size. I have had friends in law enforcement track me at speed and confirm that I was pretty darn close to correct. Usually within a single mph, too.

I suppose you could always take a ladies cloth sewing tape measure and see if both tire sizes are identical in circumference. I'll let you know how far off the 255/60R/15's take me...thanks!
