Yeah, last I heard, it was on a "lot" as the car had major engine damage :(
Stan or Rob listed it in the "destroyed Callaway section" here at the :CAC http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/specs/callaway/caltotal.html

Last update was 14 months ago, hopefully things will pick up that one and it will be back on the road - Anyone recall the "creek incident" :eek

SE is long gone!!

The SE is gone. It was considered a total loss because of the motor was run three and half quarts low and run on a drag strip nine times and was shifted at over 7000rpm on each gear change.

After I sold it to Shane three years ago this October, he managed to run it into a creek backward at 80mph. Shane driving skills were at best marginal and that is being nice. David and worked with him time and time again but he just did not get the word.

The car sat at Tom Jumper Chevy for nine months until the insurance issue was resolve. Rebuild would cost more than $30,000 which the insurance company said was more than the car was worth in the current market. This was just the engine, turbos, and minor planning at this figure.

David and I really miss this car but at the time I had a daughter starting college and David had another child on the way. We needed the money.

We did have fun on the occasion when we would match up with the with super bikes here on State road 400. That's a five lane wide highway here in north Atlanta. She never lost a rolling race from 60mph to 130mph (took only 6.2 sec) or 150mph ( took only 8.9 sec. ). Those were the good old days.

Shane put to rest one of the best examples of a TT. However, there are more great TT out there. Most can be seen here on CAC.

Rest in Peace..............

Take care,
Stan

:Steer :) :w :cry

Stan, Do you have any idea where the car is today?? I am sure someone would have to have it... That would have been neat to have taken that SE car and the red 90 that was rear 1/2 totalled and make one solid car - at least for a driver :(

What a sad story :(
Thanks again for the update :m

Its not Gone

The car belongs to a gentlemen named Billy who works at Tom Jumper Chevy. The insurance company promised it to David in lieu of payment for his assessment work. They later backout and sold it to Bill for $3700.

At that time the car was considered totalled and lost by the insurance carrier. Billy is rebuilding a motor for the car but no turbos or similar actions are being taken to return it to its original form. Callaway has it listed as "totalled" and unrepairable. The cost to just re-build a new motor and replace all the original plumping will run him over $17,000. Most of the parts are not available. He will never finish this project.

It is lost as a Callaway TT............................................

Take care,
Stan

Hell the wheels are worth more than that. Why buy a Callaway twin turbo to rebuild and not put turbos back on it??

:( I swear if idiots were airplanes...the world would be one great big airport.

Hi Josh,

This guy is an idot but also very poor with regards to money. But don't feel sorry for him. He lost it all in poor car investment.

Chris and Josh and everyone..... Just got in the new June dealers ASPS wholesale trade in price list. The Callaway have botton out and are starting to make some movement toward the top.

If either of you or anyone wants a copy, email me directly APTL@attbi.com.

Good to see the Callaways back on the move. The ZR1 are still sliding..... Bad news for owners.

Take care,
Stan

Stan, That is GREAT news about the Callaway's values :m Maybe the word is getting out, about what absolute rockets these cars are!!!

That's too bad about the 88se car - 3500 bucks - right, won't even cover the wheels...

Do you think the guy would sell it?? Seems rather foolish to put it back to "non-turbo" status even though it is so expensive to rplace the grenaded engine :eek

Again, thanks for the status report :m

No Luck!!!!

Someone offer him $5,000 after five months and he turned it down.

It was nice to see the Callaways in the green and out of the red for the first time in three years.:_rock :) :beer

Take care,
Stan

I wonder if he plans on "fixing it" then selling it as stock??
Keep an eye on that car Stan as I imagine you are not too far from it ;) Maybe you can sneak in some *spy photos* :D

Yes - glad to see Callaway's on the right side of the falling C4 dollar:upthumbs I guess the secret is out on these :m

Isn't the compression ratio of a turbo v8 lower than a normal v8?
What i mean without the turbo's will it be a normal L98 (preformance etc) or not?...

Greets Peter.

What would be the HP of a Callaway without the TTs?

Assuming that the car was built back to 1988 specs (with the lower compression ratio factored in though... ) it will have slightly less of an edge over an original L98 Vette.

This car was so damaged (internally) I would suspect they would build it to stock 88 specs w/ stock comp. ratios.

Then again, the owner is leaving the turbo's off so, Who Knows :(

What a sad ending to an awesome machine
