I have a 75 vette motor(not the one in my car).It is suffixed as a Calif. motor.I know that a 1980 vette had a Calif. motor also,it was a 305 cu.in.Can someone explain to me what the difference is with this particular motor?Could it just be an emissions thing? Is it a 350?
Thanks much

Only two motors were offered in 75, both were 350 cu.in the base was a 165 horse and the L82 with 205 horse. You could get both with California emissions trim but only mated to a automatic for Calf. While the rest of the sates could get either with a manual or auto.

Your correct on the 80 california motor being a 305 cu.in, that was the only time a C3 was offered with a 305.

Have you looked at the database here on the CAC site.. http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/specs/c3/1975/75id.html it may give you more detail on the motor you have.

Thanks WhiteKnight,That gave me all the info that I needed.Looks like it is an l-48.I didn't quite know what to expect. That California is kinda weird. The only thing weirder,is that I'm thinking of moving back there after 35 years !!!!

;LOL

California emission-suffixed engines had a different vacuum advance unit and centrifugal advance curve in the distributor (which was installed at the engine plant), so they had a unique suffix code from the otherwise-identical Federal engine assemblies. There was no difference between California and Federal engines as they left the engine plant other than the distributor.

1975 is the cut off for exemption in California..so fret not and keep the intake/carb/headers on the beastie my Brotha. It wont matter one iota!!!!:_rock
