Hey everyone! On my '76 vette I have a '80 bumper in place of the stock piece. I think it looks great and really makes the car look sporty. I did not put this bumper on under my ownership, the previous owner had this installed. I think it looks great and if you didn't know anything about 'vettes you wouldn't know its not stock. I just wanted to hear what you think about it. Do you think it ruins the integrity of the Corvette's originality? I'm just curious if anyone else has done this to their mid year C3's to change the look from drab ( my opinion ) to the more sporty 80's look.

Thanks for all your input!

Chad

Chad,

I have seen this before on other vettes. I believe that what ever make you fell good is all that is important. If you like the looks then it looks great and what ever anyone else think is besides the point. I happen to like the wide body C3s, Daytona, Turbo, etc. Some people think they are ugly, but to me they are the best thing to happen to a vette.

If you like it then it is right for you.

I, personally, don't really like the '80-'82 rear bumpers. But, like Gary said, whatever you prefer is what you should do/keep. :D

I have one on my 76, and I've seen them on a bunch of other Vettes that did not originally come with one. I think they look great! Yours looks great! It doesn't ruin anything, as you could bolt on the 76 bumper at any time and no one would be the wiser. I'd just enjoy it and forget any "integrity" issues. My 2 cents.

I tend to like it. I prefer the earlier underswept nose ('79 and earlier) over the later ('80-'82) nose, but I like the look of the later tail. Best of both worlds :)

I have the 80-82 rear bumper on my 75. Personally I like the look from the rear but not from the side view. I think if I ever change it I will go back to the correct bumper. Over the years I have changed my mind on the looks of it.

As far as the front bumper I have the correct one and it will never change. I don't like the extended look of the 80-82 front bumper.

Your car looks great Resto75! I'm glad to see other people have done the same thing with their cars. But what i'm jealous of Resto is your choice of location! Tampa is a great city and I miss her dearly! I spent last August - This January in Orlando on an Disney internship. The weather was awesome and I spent my days off down in Tampa/Clearwater.

Being the owner of BOTH an '80 and an '82, I'm (of course) partial to the 'streamlined/areodynamic' bumpers on the late-C3s, and I like the 2 earlier versions shown above;
the 'rounded-without-a-spoiler' rear-look with bumperettes ('74-'79) don't 'do-it' for me, and I think the 'conversion' pieces are neat...
but the 'conversion' nose-pieces (to convert early sharks to '80-up) don't 'look' quite right;
I think it doesn't have the correct 'wide-flair' provided by the '80-up fenders 'extra' turn-signal panel...
the choice is yours, but ANY Corvette is :cool

I happen to like the look of the '80-'82 rear bumper on the earlier C3's. I intend to replace my mine with the newer style bumper ('80-'82) as well. I think I'm going to go with an aftermarket fiberglass bumper so that there is no waveiness in the spoiler like the factory bumpers have.

I think it looks boss...keep yourself happy is my rule...looking forward to installing a pace car front spoiler on mine soon.

I have a 82 rear bumper on my 77 and really like it. (I just installed a wing-spoiler back there!)

Although I still have the original front bumper, I want the 80-82 style bumper up there. I like the elongated front. I also just installed an 'LT-1 style' front spoiler. It will blend in nicely once I get that 80-82 style front bumper.

As long as we are on the bumper topic. What is the feasibility of going retro? Can you fit a 68 bumper to a 76? How about a 68 nose to a 76?

Rear Bumper

I'm glad someone asked this question.....I have a 75 that the previous owner installed the same thing and I've always hated it, but everyone I ask likes the improvement. So I guess I'm in the minority!!

Bill if it works for you, then it will work for the rest. Its your ride, so enjoy the mods.....Remember to keep the shiny side of the Vette UP and the not so shiny side DOWN....:D

You know, judging by some of the pictures people have posted of their freshly-painted frames and newly-detailed undercarriages, I think you may need to rethink your little saying :)

HOWDY, i too have the 82 rear bumper. i love it. gives a great line to the back. i can't decide whether to make the spoiler taller or invest in a wing. love that racing look.
heck, i have so many different year mods,it is difficult to keep track of them all. but, IT'S ALL MINE!!
