I was just reading from Newton that the C3 wheels have a little bit of a problem. I wasn't sure I was understanding, but the caliper comes out too far or something? So a fix would be wheel spacers, which isn't recommended. What's that about?

And about wheel weights in general, I don't understand what balancing a wheel is. Why is this needed? What exactly do they do?

Thanks! :D

I'm also interested in knowing about the caliper clearence, if anyone wants to enlighten us.

The wheel balancing is important to the ride. If you spin an out of balance wheel very fast , it will wobble. causing alot of stress on the center point, causing an uneven ride.

How much do these balances usually weigh? And how will you know if they are needed on your Vette?

Thanks! :D

they're not heavy just enough to balance your wheels evenly and you'll know by the ride, you'll feel it in your steering wheel

Okay, thanks for the information! And, about the caliper problem....

The next time you get new tires or get the wheels balanced ask the person doing it if you could watch.

Can't imagine what Newton is talking about - C3's don't have any problem with caliper-to-wheel clearance, unless you use the wrong wheels; the factory wheels are all designed with adequate clearance to the calipers. Aftermarket wheels are another story, as there are lots of different sizes, offsets, and configurations, and they have to be designed for the particular application they're to be used on, Corvette or otherwise.

I've never heard of any caliper/wheel clearance problems with any factory wheels. You do get into problems using aftermarket wheels, OR rally wheels not designed for Corvettes, i.e., full size Chevy, Chevelle, etc., rally wheels, which have different "codes" on them.

Regarding wheel weights, they're small lead "gizmo's". They come in incremental sizes, usually in ounces or fractions of ounces. ALL Corvette wheel weights were put on the back of the wheel from the factory to prevent interference with the trim ring mounting clips. Chuck

Is it a good idea to put factory wheels on, though? Or are they just as good as aftermarket wheels? I guess the bad thing would be putting stock tires on, huh?

if by stock tires you mean the tires that were originally with the car, then yea i'd say it is a bad idea, but if the car is rather new and low miles on the tires , you might wanna put them back on after market wheels. As far as wheels go, well its your choice, some are better ( my friends has Volks on his civic , they weigh less than 5lbs each) , and some arent that much better , just that they'll give you a different look.

Okay, I see what you mean. Thanks for everything, guys! :D
