Whats the largest wheel and tire set I can fit on my 99 C5?
I want the 2006 ZO6 wheels with new rubber EMT. Ecklers has the wheels 1n 18x9.5 Front and 19x11 Rear The stock C6 tires 245 40's and 285 35"s will fit the rims but are on the high end of the recommended rim size. I'm not sure I want to put them on at the max rim size for fear that the rim might extend beyond the side of the tire and ride/handling will be compromised. Please CAC member share you thoughts, ideas and experiences.

Thanks

The "recommended" rim size has a safety margin built-in. You can even go one size wider w/o fear of compromising bead integrity (though you might have wear problems). Try various sizes in the tire size calculator.

Note: There seems to be a bug in the calculator for size 255/40-18. It recommends a max. rim width of 9" ... which is wrong. How could a 255mm width require a narrower rim than a 245mm tire? :crazy . Tire manufacturer charts (e.g., http://www.michelinman.com/assets/pdfs/doc_pilotsportps2.pdf) indicate that 10" is the recommended max width for 255/40-18.
