When is a Callaway a Callaway?

I am not trying to start a flame war but I am looking for general opinions, especially Callaway owners. Do you consider the car a Callaway only when it has had the engine modified by them? If someone buys a Callaway Aero kit and adds it to the car with no other mods done by Callaway is it worthy to be called a Callaway? Would the Aero kit add any value or would it be like any other kit depends on the eye of the buyer + or -. Thanks for any answers.

I do not consider it a Callaway. Only if you have the motor done is it a true Callaway.

My .03 (raised by one penny, due to inflation) is that to be a true Callaway you would have had to have had the underskin modifications to qualify as a true Callaway. You also have to consider that there are numerous Corvettes that have had the Callaway treatment done to them WITHOUT the aerobody option.

If you took a Yugo and removed the body and fitted it with a Corvette shell, would you then call it a Corvette?

My opinion is that the Callaway Aerobody does add value to whatever it is on - it was optional on the Callaway Corvettes from 89+ and is the engineered solution to high speed performance with awesome flair

That said, the few non-Callaway engined Vettes I have seen sell w/ an Aero on them, go for about 3-4k more but NEVER less than a comparable Vette w/out.

I recall seeing one done in "95 pace" graphics - don't know if it was just the body though...

The SNAT'S do not seem to bring stature as the B2K'S but are still a neat item. I priced the Snat option and was hoping for more then 440 Hp for the buck. I have been looking at several cars with the body kit but they are priced high for today's market. I do like the Aero body kit though. I thought about buying one with the Aero kit all ready installed and sending it to Callaway for the Snat option but I would never be able to get out of the car without a big loss.

I think that the body kit could hurt value down the road on certain cars like the Pace Car, Grand Sport, ZR1 and collector addition if they do not have the engine work.

Cars have never really been money makers
You are also right about the B2K's - they will over time hold the magic like the L88s. LS6. Z06 (from the 60's ), etc...

Supernaturals are quite fun though and a huge bang for the buck
Options like the Coilovers, center exit exhaust and other goodies made for interesting packages - I know of more than a few SNAT's in the mid - low 12's if 1/4 mi performance is what you are after, top speed - they rate it at 191 w/ the Aero

Keep you r eyes open, you never know when a deal might fall into your lap

John, over the weekend at Spring Carlisle, I saw more than a couple Yenko "clones" asking far more than many of the B2K's - I hope you are right & in 10 years of so the Callaways get their true recognition from the market
(although they are holding rather well compared to the rest of the C4 market as a whole )

Oke so here a reaction from a Callaway fan from Holland!
I always thought the engine b2k or snat was a minimum to get acces to the other goodie's (aerobody, center exhaust, coils, leather interieur etc). But as Mark (shopview) said to me, the goodies where seperate from the engine from 92 or so.
I think this is a loss in exclusive Callaway enginering, but then if i could afford the aero and not the engine i would be happy to []

Personaly i think a Callaway is a true Callaway if it has a Callaway heart!! The rest are options on the engine upgrade. But then again, in my top 3 is the blue ZR1 with aero, but it has a doug rippie LT5 upgrade... but it's a true callway to me! So i know what Johnny is talking about []

The one thing that isn't that important to me is the value in about 10 years (oke it is a little, if i totall it or something) but corvettes (or maybe some day a callaway) is my hobby and not my financial plan like options or rent. A Callaway would be a keeper for me if i had one, also my 81 (if i don't get into problems) i don't care about the more or less value w/ or w/o a aerobody. Just to talk numbers. I bought my normal good but far from show 81 vette for 14k euro's here, now i'm doing a body off for minimal 10k euro.. Will i ever get it back? Is a 81 worth it in the market.. i don't think so, but it's my hobby so i don't care that much about money. That's what i think a true Corvette or Callaway fan is...

Ps. Don't take it to personal, but i read like 3 or more time's value in this topic..

In my opinion, a body kit without engine work is just another form of ricer disease.

I think the majority of the people feel it needs to have the Callaway motor (Heart) to be a true Callaway. Callaway is about performance not body kits. Body kits were developed for aero reasons because the old vettes had to much air drag. Would you call a LT-1 a ZR-1 if you put the wheels and body panels on it? Do that and see what kind of a response you get from the ZR-1 crowd. What about a grand sport? Is a red vette a grand sport if you paint it admiral blue with stripes and black five spoke wheels? I don't think it is even if it has an LT-4. They are all fun cars but certain things are expected from a call name and it has mostly been about performance.
L-72, LS-7, L-88, L-89, LT-1, LT-4, ZR-1, ZR-2, LT-5, Z0-6, Z0-7, DRM, SGC, Callaway. If no one cares about value why are cars not driven and stored away. I think people want the value to rise as the car ages and they have a pristine example. JMO
