where are the stampings on a rear end for a '60?

I haven't cleaned the rear end yet, but I wanted to find the stampings for it and to decipher any codes that might be there, anyone know where they are located????....also, since I have the body off the frame, where is the S/N of the car on the frame, again it isn't cleaned yet either.....thanks

Not sure on your 60 but on my 68 the date codes, etc are on the split line between the front and rear housing. Hope this helps.
As for the stamp on the frame, I thought it was on top of the frame rail above the left rear wheel. Could be mistaken though.

1960 rearend

Are you referring to the pumpkin or the rearend housing that the pumpkin is bolted to? I still have the pumpkin from my C1 project (4 series and for sale), the housing was sold. The pumpkin has cast & stamprd markings on the left front (drivers side) and stamped only markings on the right (pass side). I have some info to decode a 1960 pumpkin as mine turned out to be for that year (my car is a 59).

The pumpkin's casting number and date are cast-in (raised) on the driver's side, and the ratio code and assembly date are STAMPED lightly into the face of the casting on the passenger side - usually takes a thorough cleaning to make the stamped characters show up.
