Does anyone know where (and if) I can but the factory maintenance/ repair manual for the 86.
I was rebuilding a conquest/starion a few years back and was able to get a factory manual directly from Chrysler, I would assume that Chevrolet has the same thing (or am I wrong)
Thanks,
Tom R

Believe it or not I was looking also for one and corvette central has them.

If you're looking for the assembly manual, like the ones they have for the earlier Corvettes, and not a "service manual", you're out of luck - they don't make them for the C4 yet. :(

Just what exactly is in these manuals from Helminc.com I have talked to c4c5 about getting one, and I really think this is what I want to do. The cost is about 90 bucks plus shipping. Is there really alot of info in them, and what kind? Are these the manuals that shops have when they work on vettes?

Thanks

They are not the same manuals that are used in the dealership, but they are very close. The manual will prove invaluable to you as time goes by. You'll be thankful you picked one up - it'll save you a lot of money when you can do the job yourself and avoid labor charges. ;)

Remember though, they're not perfect - nothing is. You're bound to find an occasional error, and at times it will still be confusing, but the Helm manuals are far superior to the others.

Helm has all the little details that Haynes doesnt, but it doesnt have the pictures youll find in the other manuals, all its pictures are actually drawings.

I think that is its only real weak point, and for some small jobs it doesnt have all the detail you would want.

But its way above the rest in terms of completeness.

Thanks Guys, The Conquest/Starion manual is very complete with complete blow-up views of the assemblies (ie. motor rebuild procedure w/ diagrams)

also the complete electrical and body. but as stated, not always perfect but blows the Hayes away (well worth the $90 bucks).
In fact, If anyone is real serious about their car and maintaining it these factory manuals are a necessity, saves you boo-ku bucks and time, and you know for sure you are doing it correctly.
