Where to have Vette Towed after accident?

Had a 1990 Eagle Talon in perfect shape, was going to run this car till it finally just gave up on me. Payed off in 1994, and would have lasted me till 2010 easy.

Was totalled on a country road from some guy who T-boned me. I walked away without a scratch, if I had a passanger they would have been dead. Now, the car had a great audio system along with a good road side tool box in the trunk. After the wreck I had the car towed to the local wrecker yard. Nothing wrong with that, where was I going to put it, plus it was totalled.

The next day I arrive at the wrecker yard to get the stereo and toolbox, and whatever else was not part of the car that I owned. The car had literally been gone through, stereo gone, tool box gone, shifter, sun visors, back seat, antenna, and more litterally chopped overnight.

Asked what happened, "sorry, we get robbed all the time, we are not responsible for the cars". What you jack...!? I hate being played and scammed!

Seeing how the wrecker business runs itself when a nice car is offloaded I now tell my wife, if the vette is wrecked it gets towed to the house, NOT a wrecker yard. Under NO circumstances does the wrecker yard see this car. It gets towed directly to my garage. If the wrecker has a problem with it, get another wrecker service.

They will start stripping it as soon as it gets there! Even totalled I could part it out for cash, use it for my own parts, or maybe fix it back up. But I do not want a wrecker service pulling parts to sell getting all of the most valued parts off of it, and totally screwing up what I might be able to put back together. Taking the emblems off for there kids room or some cr.p.

What are your thoughts on this? Where would you have your Vette towed if undrivable after a wreck, and probably totalled?

Always get it towed to your house, even if you have to pay a little more.

It will save several things.

1. No storage charges can accrue if it is on your property.
2. It is safe in you sight and control
3. You can control the total loss process with the insurance company, because you have the car in your custody.
4. It just makes sense!

I had a nasty wreck a couple of years ago. I was still in the hospital when the wrecker yard dumped it in my driveway. I too had a large stereo in the car, and was able to remove it at my time and pace.

Thanks,

After my experience I do not think I will ever have a car (corvette or not) towed anywhere but to my house. Where I can control the process.

I was just wondering if anyone else had similar experiences with tow companies.
