Hey guys the 66 that I've had for a little while has a 62 327 and the original?? bellhousing a casting number ending in 621.. Well here's the problem I guess the start location is different so bubba cut the bellhousing so the starter would fit. What bellhousing would work in this situation? I was thinking maybe a 65 bellhousing since the blocks were the same from 62-65 then changed in 66??? As always thanks Gents... Dave..

Dave,
I have a '67 327 block (3892657 ) in my '65. The bellhousing is 3858403 and it appears to be aluminum.

Brian thanks man. The reason I ask is b/c from my post before bubba cut the bellhousing to get the starter to fit. Could it be that they just used the 168 tooth flywheel and starter and that's why the starter nose would not fit the 621 bellhousing. BTW Brain as you can see I still haven't made a decision. hmmm keep what I got, buy a 66 blk or the ZZ4 decisions decisions.. Dave...

The 621 bellhousing was used for '66-'74 big-blocks and '73-'82 small-blocks, with 168-tooth flywheels. The correct bellhousing for a '66 is casting #3858403 (all '64-'72 small-blocks, 153-tooth flywheel). The '62 used casting #3779553 (aluminum), which had tapped holes in it for the starter mounting, and used a 168-tooth flywheel; '63-on used the block-mounted starter.

John, Thanks for the info. This block is a July 62 block so it has the starter mounted to the block. So it looks like the 3858403 will be the one I start looking for.. That clears it up.. Dave..

The 621 clutch housing will support the use of an 11 inch flywheel - if you have a starter with the correct nose (the nose is interchangeable on Delco starters. Bubba didn't know that.
