Hi all!

I have a '89 Corvette with a '85 engine (cast iron heads). Is it possible to change the the heads to an aluminium one without changing the block itself? Does the L-98 or the LT-1 alu heads fit to this '85 block?

Not sure on the L-98 heads but the reverse cooling on the
LT1 makes that impossible. Your car is a gen 1 350 small
block, you should be able to find after market Alum. heads.

Yes, you can do it. Youll need centerbolt valve covers and the heads. I believe the EGR setup is different on 85 too, as is the cold start injector (i think, i'm not sure).

I would get the 88-91 vette heads preferably, if youre not messing with serious mods. Theyre still good for 350hp untouched, so even with some major mods theyre great.

If youre going for a real engine down the road to make serious HP, id pick the AFR 190s. airflowresearch.com

LT1 heads will bolt to the block, but they are reverse-cooling and wont really work without extreme modification.

Thank you all for the valuable informations about the heads. I think i'll check the Trick Flow and Air Flow Resear ch sites for aftermarket head. Thanks to everybody again, this is a great and very helpful community!
