I sent my 2000 18" RR wheel off to be refinished after I kissed a curb going around it a bit too closely. It's polished aluminium, not just painted, so the first quote of time to finish was way short, instead of 2-3 days it's already two weeks +. Here it is July 4th, and my all American car is up on jackstands for the last 2 weeks!
I would guess that the 17" wheel assembly would be the more universal fit, in that you know it will steer, as long as you get an asymetric design, and there is definitely a little more room for ground clearance on the rear of the car, so I would think that would work. This would be only for temporary use, - as if it were a "donut". Obviously, I do not want to damage the rear axle, differential etc. if the two sides were different.
Is my reasoning OK or am I nuts to even try this?
Also, if this was a go, does anyone know of a less expensive way to do this, like a Camaro stamped steel wheel, or if that's impossible, which it probably is, what's a good aftermarket wheel? Do the chrome knockoffs look just like polished aluminum?
Thanks!
