Will a 4L60E or 4L80 fit in a 81?

Look up 4l60e trannys and youll see there electronic,thats what the e is for at the end.There not like your typical 700 or 200.

no problem i know of one guy that did it,and his name was monty he had a twin turbo 80 or 81 but he sold it.

yeah Monty ran a 4L80E (what you need is a PCM controller, he used the fAST system I tihnk)

The tranny is no problem, i have a 4L60 in my 81 (have to be put together but oke) It's more the E from 4L60E that is the problem..
For the technical part, buy a 82 vette crossmember. Tailpiece from a 700R4 which mounts to the crossmember (later c4 tailpiece's don't have it they connect in another way)

and the later ones also all have a VSS in the tailshaft and not a mech. drive adapter (you'll also need a different gearset for the mech drive)

Im soon going to install a SERIOUS big block with a 4L80E in my CORVETTE as the 700r4 will never stand up to near the power that bbc engine produces and since I thought the computer trans control was insanely over priced, and complicated so I did some research, TRANSGO PERFORMANCE

has a KIT that converts your trans to FULL MANUAL CONTROL OF ALL SHIFT FUNCTIONS that costs far less and makes the swap far less complicated (above)

You didn't specify your hp target, but these guys claim to to have 700R4 that handles up to 700hp for $2300.
