Will a Weiand Action Plus fit?

Was wondering if a Weiand Action Plus intake would fit under a '79 L-82's hood. I saw somewhere that it was listed as a "medium rise" intake and want to make sure I won't put the air cleaner through the hood when I shut it (if I go with this intake). Thanks for the input.

BOB:
I'm running a Weiand Action Plus P/N 8004 beneath a stock Qjet & stock '71 2-snorkel air cleaner beneath my 71's stock L-48 hood. The '71 L-48 hood has virtually no rise ... it's low ... PROBABLY lower than your L-82 ... PROBABLY. Everything fits just fine. I'm running a big cap HEI distributor (like your L-82) and the air cleaner is very close to the cap ... but it fits. You'll probably need to make up a new fuel line from pump to carb ... for safety's sake ... go the extra mile & use metal ... not rubber fuel line.

Here's some dimensions where I measured my '71's old iron intake; comparing them to manufacturers' published dimensions:

Intake Manifold, Cast Iron c/n 3973460 F = 2.69” R = 4.375”
Intake Manifold, Weiand alum p/n 8004 F = 3.50” R = 4”
Intake Manifold, Edelbrock p/n 2101 F = 3.50” R = 4.60

As you can see ... the 8004 seems shorter than 2101 ... but because of the carb pad angle ... the 8004 actually raises the FRONT of the air cleaner a bit higher than the 2101 or OE does. Break out that old geometry textbook (pythagarean theorum) ... get some wads of tin foil ... measure your present hood-ac clearances. My OE L-48 intake dimensions are PROBABLY quite similar to your L-82 ... PROBABLY.

BTW ... intake alone ain't worth the swap ... just swapping intake ain't gonna do much at all ... suggest swapping cam & lifters & valve springs & timing chain while you're in there. G'luck

I'm actually doing a whole engine rebuild. I wnat to wait to get the engine out before I kow for sure what I'm doing, but assumin the crank is in good shape I will be goind with the Crane Energizer 272 H10 cam, AFR heads, 9.5-10 comression, new oil and water pumps, new aluminum radiator, Energizer full roller rockers, new suspension, new richmond 5 speed, rebuild rear end with new 3.08 gears, and new exhaust. I've heard Doug Thorley Headers makes a 50 state legal set of headers that I'll be using. All of this stuff has CARB EO's so I should be 50 state legal when I'm done. If I need to replace the crank I'll stroke it and go with the 268H cam instead. Desktop Dyno 2000 says I'll get a little more out of the Energizer cam with the 350, but the 268H is the way to go with a 383. I''ll probably top off the 350 with an Edelbrock 600 cfm, but If I go 383 I'll have to stick with a Q-jet. I'd like the easier tuning (so I've heard), but am a little concerned with only having 600 cfm for the carb. Everywhere I read says it's OK for the 350, but too small for the 383. All told I'm looking at about $10,000 this winter (give or take about $2k). For suspension I'm looking at the VBP GT plus system with smart struts and the front monospring setup. Frame, interior, and body are in great shape so I won't touch them for about 5 years (to save money again), then I'll swap hoods, repaint, and redo the interior.
