Will it run good?

I'm still in a delema over engines. Being on a tight budget, I am pondering this combonation. L98 shortblock, upgraded Vortec heads ( machined & springed for up to .550 lift). TPIS ZZ9 cam ( already have, was slated for my LT1 Formula) peformer intake. 1 5/8 headers with a true dual exhaust. I should be able to have this engine together for around $2500. I'm having a hard time swallowing dropping 4k on an engine, since I'm not really out to be king of the street or anything like that, just to run some respectable power. Any comments?

What is you goal?

1. 12 second 1/4 mile
2. 160 mph top end
3. 7 second 1/8 mile
4. Rocket blast speed from zero to 45 mph
5. Strong sound, good mile power?

You need to figure out what you want it to do, then you will know if spending $4K is how you need to go about doing it.

That combo you have laid out with the right gear and good tires would run with a Z06 all day long...but, a tuned Z06 with some extra goodies will still beat you. Are you okay with that? If so, then maybe you don't even need to go to that extreme.

Set your goal, work backwards from there.

Thanks for the advice. If I had to set a goal, it would probobly be a reliable mid 13sec. I would be totaly satisfied if I could run with a stock Z06 or even a regular C5 for that matter. Thats why I think that the combination that I laid out would satisfy my needs/goals for the car, without having to shell out the 4k for a crate motor. Thanks agian. I would also like to say that the people on this forum are much more helpfull & considerate than the people on the other forum that I am on for my Formula. I can see that the Corvette crowd is much more mature than the F-body guys. Thanks & have a good one!

A crate motor 350/ 375 hp for less than $2000. ,
would fit what you want to do, plus its a good starting point.
Im running a 427 small block, but it took me a few years to get what I have now, runs in the 10:80s.
Get a motor that you can build in the future, a good 400 bored to 406 with stock heads ( with a little work) can be built for around $2,500. and that should be close to 450 hp. When you get the motor parts make sure they compliment the next part.
A properly built motor with matching parts will run with the Top Dogs.
I belive the Vortec heads are good for only a .520 lift at most.
