The driver's side window on my 2000 vert. needs to be adjusted inward at the rear of the glass. The top of the window is presently closing outside of the convertible top and allowing excessive wind noise. How much of a job is it to make an adjustment , and is it something I can do, or should I take it to a body shop? I am assuming that there is some type of adjustment for the up and down feature as well. Thanks in advance for any advice and input.

I am no expert but I did take mine to the dealer for a window adjustment and found out some info. The door panel has to be pulled to get to the window adjustment. There is a vertical and horizontal adjustment. The body guy acted like he didn’t want to pull the door panel. He said you run the risk of it becoming loose or actually cracking the fiberglass that the panel attaches to. Personally I think he was just saying that so I wouldn’t make him adjust my window. They have tools that are supposed to help them pull the panel off without a problem. I would definitely let somebody do it that knew what they were doing. The panel might be tricky getting off.

Thanks for the reply, The Player. I think I will check with some of the body shops in the Ft.Smith area, trying to locate one that knows Vettes. I don't think the door panel should require a great deal of difficulty, but I'm not sure. My C4 door panels were not that difficult, so maybe I will find someone with a service manual, and give it a try. Thanks again for advice and information.

I had time today to get the inside driver's side door panel off and need to know the correct procedure for window adjustment. I need to limit the upward movement by about 1/2 inch and to move the top of the window (rear corner of glass) about 1/4 inch inwards. Before I begin turning screws and "screwing" things the wrong way, can anyone give me the correct procedure on how to accomplish these adjustments?

Thanks in advance.

Window Adjustment

I have the same problem and just found these directions. Will give it a try when I have the time:

WINDOW TIP-IN- ADJUSTMENT

1. Position the window fully up
2. Remove the large access plug from under the front of the door
3. Loosen the window regulator front channel mounting nut
4. Remove the reflector from the trim panel
5. Loosen the jack screw jam nut
6. Adjust tip in with the jack screw. Turn the jack screw clockwise to tip the window outward. Turn the screw counterclock wise to tip the window inward. One turn of the screw equals approximately 1 N.m (0.04) in) change at the top of the window.
7. Tighten the jack screw jam nut
8. Lower the window
9. Tighten the window regulator channel front mounting screw
10. Raise the window and check the alignment
11. Install the access plug under the front of the door
12. Install the reflector in the door trim panel

THIS WAS A SECOND POST:

You'll need two sockets...a 10mm and 5/32.... and a flashlight

Take the red reflector off the door... pry slowly from the bottom and it will just pop out

you will see an aluminum spindle (shaft) surrounded by the 5/32 flange nut inside. This is where you will need the flashlight.

Twist the nut counter-wise as far you want to bring the window in. Each complete turn brings it in .04 inch.

Then turn the spindle the same number of turns counter-clockwise or until it tightens up.

Put the reflector back on and test.

HOPE THIS HELPS.

sasunlover, thanks for all of your input. I finally got around to doing the adjustment today, and IT WORKS as advertised. I had to make a considerable number of turns on the adjustment shaft to get the proper clearance between the top of the window and the convertible top, but I finally got it to where it should be. Now I know that the door panel doesn't require romoval, and that eliminates a needless step. Also, there is ample room to get a 5/32 socket on the front locking nut, although it appears that it won't fit because of clearance, but it will. A pretty simple fix for an irritating problem. Thanks again for all your help.

No problem, glad to help. Now I just have to do it myself. Hope I didn't make too many mistakes in the typing. Guess you got the idea tho.

Save the wave :-)
