Rebuilt both window regulators. A fairly easy job. The hardest part was getting the door panels off.

I have a "clunk " when raising the windows on both sides. It was there before I started and I was hoping to make it go away. (This is an improvement over usual work where these types of things develop due to the repair).

The clunk is caused by the u bar that the window bolts onto. When coming back up it hits the spring on the regulator. If I pull on the regulator ever so slightly it misses and no noise.

I can't figure out how to adjust this out. Any ideas.

I hav the exact problem. i've tried every adjustment and just can't figure it out. i'll monitor your post to see if any of the experts can help.

Bobchad, wish I could help....I'm still trying to adjust my windows after the new rubber.....Bought the AIM and did everything it says but still want close all the way. However, when you find out how to adjust the problem you have, I would like to know the fix...

Matt,

Turns out it is not hitting the spring. The back of the roller that goes through the arm and controls the window movement is hitting a large bolt that holds the motor onto the hardware. Probably over 25 years some of the bow has gone out of the front and rear channels due to the stress the motor places on them.

I've been told that I can shim the bottom channel with a washer between the door and the channel and move it out ever so slightly and get enough space.

I'll give it a try this weekend and let you know.

Matt,

I went home last night and loosened the bolt on the bottom front channel and pushed it in about the width of a quarter. No more impact. I'll have to get a washer this weekend and get it shimmed up permanently. Hopefully I can feed it through the existing holes in the door panel and not have to take the regulators out again.
