I got in my baby yesterday for a long overdue drive. The weather was gorgeous so I took the top off and rolled down the windows but the passenger one didn't move. I tried both the drivers and the passengers control but nothing. With both buttons I hear the same noise it makes as if I'm trying to roll the window up and its already there. I was wondering if anyone has heard of this before. I suspect either a worn piece or some debris but I figured I'd throw it out there. I'm gonna take off the door interior and have a look see but since its my first time exploring this area are there any components or things I should be aware of? Thanks.

Hey, Ryan- long time no hear!
Is your DIC giving you any codes? It could be a number of things, from a bad fuse to a bad motor on the power window mount.

Ryan,

It sounds like you may have broken something inside the window actuator, like the worm gear on the motor shaft.
If it makes the motor noise but nothing moves, there is a disconnection of the drive motor somewhere in there someplace. I have never been inside of a C5 door yet, but the scissors mechanism is usually connected to the drive motor by a perforated nylon strap that goes in and out of the motor assembly on most GM cars.
The strap might be broken, but that usually causes the window to drop down inside the door.

C4/C5 Specialist, please straighten me out if I'm way off base on this one!

No codes thrown, and I was fearing something was borken. But if it was borken wouldn't the motor spin freely? I don't think the motor is spinning at all right now. I have to do the headlight test some night. If the headlights dim then the electric motor is pulling locked amperage (which is significantly higher then normal running amperage, hence the dimming) If the lights don't dim (which they don't during normal running) then the motor is spinning freely.

Now that I think about it a little, there's a time delay relay for the window that controls the motor. That's what makes it go all the way down when you hit the button once. The relay may be bad, causing no voltage to the motor. Don't ask me where it is cuz I don't know.

Got it fixed today, just took it to the dealership. They said that two components had gotten weak and broken off (I forget the name).
