On my way to work I put the window up and about a minute later i see smoke coming from it (drivers side). The switch got stuck in the up position somehow and it heated up :/ I replaced the switch and the melted plastic where the wires hook into but it still doesnt work. The passenger side still works but im guessing i have to replace the motor for it? My questions are; where is it, how do i get to it, and how much does one run? Thanks

I would make sure all the wires are connected correctly and not broken somewhere near the switch. Window Diagram

If its the motor, they run about 100 bucks and its located inside the door. Its held on by three rivits. MOTOR LINK

This link will help you get at the motor. LINK

is there any way to be absolutely sure it is the motor before i start taking everything apart? After i replaced the switch and the wire connector, when i try to put the window down it nearly shuts the power off to my whole car.

Use a mulimeter to make sure you are getting voltage at the Pink wire...Voltage should also be at the Dark blue wire when you push the lever up and there should be voltage at the brown wire when you push the lever down. Check for continuity at the black wires. After that you have to take the door panel off...look for anything jambing up the window works...Then check for voltage at the motor...Key in run switch up (blue) switch down (brown) if voltage is found...its the motor.

Melted switches and "nearly shuts the power off to my whole car" means one thing, a short circuit downstream. You could have a shorted motor, but you could also have frayed or pinched wiring shorting the 12V to metal somewhere when you hit the switch. You could also wind up melting the new switch if you're not careful.

I'd get a multimeter, but look for shorts to ground in the wiring to the motor.
