Just removed my mouldings and noticed according to the assembly manual am missing some clips. Ordered what I think I need from paragon, my question is on the top peice do the clips screw to or through the birdcage? there were some clips but the screws appeared glued through the holes in the metal frame or birdcage is this the way you do it? Thanks guys. Not sure as how to attach or hold these peices in.

Haven't done it, but...

The shop manual shows a clip "retainer" that looks suspiciously like a nut (possibly a relatively flat speed nut). The threaded stud of the clip appears to extend through the birdcage, and may have had sealer applied to prevent water leaks.

According to my old '76 vintage parts manual, the "retainer" is part number 3825927 (6 req'd). But, the 63 clip is unique, #3828344, while the retainer is listed for 63-67.

All '67 clips are attached to the birdcage with screws.

Kind of figured that, didnt see any nut or stud types in the paragon catalog guess ill wait till the new clips come and try to figure something out thanks for the reply. Wonder what happened to the original nuts didnt have to remove any to get it off. Oh well..:w

Hey 67heaven the clips in your picture are they to hold the windshield in or for the moulding? Have not removed the windshield yet, wanted to wait for the weather stripping and for my stainless to come back from getting restored, found out today its gonna take 7 weeks, youll probably have your car done by then huh? sure enjoy watching for your posts and even learned afew tricks from ya thanks for sharing your knowledge.

The clips are for the stainless molding. The glass is held in by the rubber weatherstrip which has a secondary lip that folds over the edge of the metal frame.

When you get ready to reinstall the glass, post here and we'll help you through it.

Wayne is correct, and you can get them from Corvette Central. Get extra clips. Glass shops break them. I always have 2 spares. Dang trucks that sling rocks have put 4 windshields in my 66.

took the windshield out today and see where the clips go. Does the moulding slide between the clip and fiberglass on the bottom and side front pieces? Not quite sure i understand how they work looks like the weatherstripping covers them up when the windshield was installed.

Yes, the mouldings slide between the clips and the fiberglass.

67Heaven,

Were the holes for the clips in the frame before? They srcew in right? I had to replace the winshield frame on my '64 and if I remember correctly, there are no holes for the clips..

Dinger09 sent the following message....

"Is there a speciality tool to remove the moldings for polishing. I don't want to start messing with them until I am confident that I can get them off in reasonable shape. Took me 4 months to find rear long crossover pieces for the 64 coupe."

======================================================

I'll answer here so that others may participate. Alhtough there are tools for that purpose, I simply used a very small flat screwdriver and took plenty of time....about 1.5 hours for the front and 1 hour for the rear.

Someone may be ablt to provide a link to the specialty tool.

I borrowed a tool from a local body shop to take the upper windshield stainless molding off of my daughter's 72 LT-1 convert today. You can surely get them from Eastwood, or maybe a local NAPA. It looks like a "4" on the end that you hook on the clip and pull down to release the stainless.

By the way GreaseMonkey, where did you get the windshield replacement for your 64? The 72 has some rust holes where the top of the windshield laid. I suppose someone could patch it up, but it would be nice to replace at least the top section.
Thanks
Ol Blue
