I am fixing to repair the wiper door on my '72. I am replacing the actuator, vacuum relay, and vacuum switch; all of which are bad. My question is; how does the wiper door and wiper system work when the wiper switch is turned on. I am trying to understand how the vacuum switch at the wiper arm and the electric switch at the wiper door all come into play. Your help is appreciated.

Hey CS, go inot the C3 knowledge base I think it's the Ignition Electrical file, there's a real good article on the wiper system, it's for a 68 but samo for us.

Hey, thanks! I think that will help me out.

Alright, everything is working, except the timing of the wipers and wiper door. The wipers are "busting out" and not waiting for the door to open. They close beautifully, but opening is not right and I'm not sure just how to adjust them.

Any suggestions.

cs,
check the contact switch under the hood. it should not let the wipers work until the door is open.

I went back and read the section in the Knowlege Base this morning and I was thinkng the same thing. What I don't understand is; the vacuum relay gets its vacuum from the vacuum switch on the PS wiper arm. That switch only sends vacuum to the vacuum relay when the wiper actually moves...right? So how can the door open before the wiper moves?

CS

cs,
the vacuum switch on the wiper arm only allows the door to close when the wipers are parked. the switch on the firewall keeps the wipers from moving until the door is fully open. either the plunger is adjusted too close or the switch is shorted or bypassed.

mike

Okay, I'll will check the switch; but if that's the case, then I may not have the vacuum hoses set up right. :hb

Thanks for your reply,

CS
